April 6, l956 To the Students of Robert Taft High School These few words must first be a Uthank youu to each and everyone who helped us launch our fine, new school In it self, whatever success Taft High School achieves will rest upon the vision, courage, and hard work of those who authorized its building, planned its physical being, and upon the coopera t1ve spirit of its students and staff To those young men and women who may so proudly call themselves members of the first graduating class of Robert Taft High School I commend these words UThe cowards never started and the weak died upon the way U This, so legend goes, was said by those who successfully braved the western trails and opened up new frontiers for our country Today this challenge is greater than ever 1f we are to reach the purposes of our founding fathers The challenge of setting arlght a world of diverse social and political philosophies, strong tensions and bursting conflicts, is yours The frontiers are boundless frontiers of service, frontiers of responsibility, frontiers of educational, social, political, scientific, industrial, and medical accomplishment which must be achieved if we are to fulfill the dreams of freedom and opportunity and brotherhood envisioned in our constitution Your enthusiasm, your imagination, your eager minds have beenzadelight to your teachers,as well as to your parents.
