At a time when we are all tempted to make quick, superficial, and easy decisions in a busy, hurried life, the English faculty, through its new program of course electives, is en- couraging students to study deeply, to understand fully, and then to respond wisely to lasting truths on the strength of this knowledge and understanding. William Shakespeare urged us to un- mask falsehood and bring truth to light. This is what the English depart- ment is hoping to do by offering students an opportunity to delve deeply into their own areas of interest. In order to accomplish this, we believe the traditional college prep and general approach needs restructuring and refinement to allow for stu- dent differences in ability, maturity, interest, and motivation.
