But these defeats merely made our late season comeback more exciting, We had a near victory in our second encounter with Garfield, losing on a single conver- sion, and a fighting Taft eleven gave Portsmouth a real battle for three and one-half periods before going down in defeat in the closing minutes of the contest. Al- though continually de- feated, neither our team nor the student body ever became discouraged. The Tigers continued to work hard, practicing long hours, and their efforts were rewarded when, after losing nine straight games, they climaxed the season with a satisfying Holiday Debut victory.
