H15 A Y I -izl' C V rj In 1938, eight of the twenty-five seniors started their first day of School together at the old Tabor grade school. Those eight arerRobert Shoe- maker, Donna Rae Kempton, Harriette Lybarger, Ramona Dyke, Donald Queen , Bud Wolkins, Carolyn Whitney and Twila Bell. As we went through our memor -filhd grade school days we gained twenty new members. Those that began our fresh- man year and are still with us are: Ben Suhr, Richard Bass, Jeannette White- hill, La Vern Knierlm, bruce Blachburn, Robert Morrow, Merril Brandt, Jerry Smith, Earl Barber, Robert Boone, Eleanor Bateman, Duane Mintle, Joe Hetzel, Larry DuVal, Wendell Dunsdon and Gwen Asman. During our last year of Junior high we gave our 8th grade play, nwatch Out for Spooksn a great success. Our class picnic was held the last day of school in the State Park. As we entered High School the next September we began to wonder if wehad been ngraduatedu or ndemotedn. Upperclassmen looked at us as though we were the ngreenestw crop of fresh that had ever passed through the portals of dear old Tabor High. F During our Junior year we gained two new members, mary Elliott and Phyllis Bownes. Our Junior and Senior banquet was held at the Fontenelle Hotel, in Omaha, Nebraska on April 22. During the year we gave our Junior Class Play'W1g- tailsn. After what seemed to be a long wait we received our class rings. Our Senior year was filled with happy experiences of every senior. During our first semester we lost one of our boys who has been with us since gradedays, Bob Morrow an old classmate moved to California. On September 18, we journeye ed to Shenoadoah to have our pictures taken. We look forward to uSkipday', Sen- ior play, Junior and Senior banquet, Baccalaureate, Senior Chapel and Commence - ment. On parting from Tabor High School we realize we have spent four of the most glorious years of our lifes. We meet at Tabor's new airport, 'The Subterranean Super Duper Skyline . We jump into our jet, 'Silver Streak,' and take off to gather up the rest of our classmates to go to a reunion on Mars. As we go along at a comfortable speed of 999.9 miles an hour the motor starts acting up so we land on a private field. As we climb out of our planets see a familiar figure coming toward us. Why, my land, its none other thannbrry Smith, who tells us he is a confirmed bachelor. Jerry tells his mechanic to look over the motor while we go into his small 23-room mansion to get refreshed and to walt while he gets ready to go with us. ' Returning to the plane we find the mechanic climbing out of the plane. Why, its our old classmate, Gwen Asman. She decided to become a lady mechanic be- cause she couldn't decide which man she wanted. Now, accompanied by Jerry and Gwen,we journey to Chicago where the Wor1d's Fair is going on. We land at ll o'clock and rent a new Model T to go down town to get some- thing to eat. 'Say, that looks like a nice place, letb eat here,W says Gwen. We park the car and enter the restaurant. That attractive hostess looks famil- 1ar,why its our pal, Carolyn Whitney. She tells us she and her husband own the place. We should have guessed sincethe name of it is 'Frank's Imperial Room N. After being seated, we order our lunch. A cigarette girl comes toward us. Jerry gets so excited he spills a glass of water. The head waiter is summoned, and he sends for the chief cook a d bottle washer to clean up the mess.We watch him clean up the water and notice he looks familiarg why, 1t's none other than Merril Brandt, who tells us he is now married and has seven very nice children We tell him to meet us at the fair after lunch. After dining, we leave for the fair grounds. We meet Carolyn and Merril and go down to the midway. We all get tickets and go on the giant roller coast- er. Everyone shakily gets off and Gwen looks a little pale so we take her to the carnival doctor. Boy! Does that doctor look sophisticated! Why 1t's' Ben VI Suhr, our old buddy. Ben gives Gwen something for her nerves and.we start off again. As we are leaving the midway we see a sign about a strong mangwe decide to stop and see it. We go inside and are seated. The stage lights are on and a huge man comes out on the stage.Boy,he looks like-it couldn't be,it is though why,it's Bud Wolkins. After his act we go back stage to see him. He is now mm feet four inches tall and weighs 210 lbs. We ask him how he got so large. He tells us he took Dr. Snoozle's Vito-Capsules. We have now acquired two more members of our class so we go back to our parked car and parked beside us is the neatest Cadillac we have ever seen. It has a South Dakota 41 county license. We wonder if its anyone we know. Well, look who is coming over here, it's Donald Queen and his wife. Donald tells us his wife is here at the fair Judging chickens and that he now runs the Standard Grocery in Rapid City. We tell him that we are having a class reunion and we are going to meet in Tabor tomorrow. He tells us he will meet us in Tabor as he has to attend to some business in Tabor, so he will drive his car back. We get in our car and go back to the airport. We head for Washington D. C. to see the president to get a pass tot he stratosphere. We land at the El Ringo Airport and rent a touring car and head for the White House. Upon entering, we ask the receptionist, who lodm'vaguely familimg where to find the president. She gives us directions and we hurry up the cor- ridor entering the pres1dent's chamber. The president's name is Oscar Joe Pret. After talking with him a while, he tells us he is from Iowa. We tell him he looks and acts just like a boy we used to go to school with in Tabor. He says, 'You're from Tabor? Well, so am I. As we leave we tell her and Joe to meet us at the El Ringo airport at 6:45 to go back to Tabor for a class reunion on Mars. We meet them at the set hour and im ediately take eff in our jet. We fly to Philadelphia, Penn., and land. Merril tells us that La Verne Knierim works in a coal mine here. We walk to the nearest bus stop and get on the bus and go to the Boone coal mines where La Verne works. We walk into the office and are greeted by a man who looks very familiar and finally someone yells, nRobert Boone, our old classmatel' We find out that Robert inherited this mine from a rich aunt of his. We tell him we are all going back to Tabor axd meet the rest of our classmates and have a class reunion on Mars. While we are telling him this some of the mine workers came into the offices and among them weflnd La Verne. After talking to him for quite some time, La Verne suggests that we go to Penn State College Campus to see another one of our classmates., He re- fuses to tell us who it is. We all go back to our jet, and take off for the college private airport immediately. We land safely and all get out and who is there to greet us but Mary Elliott, who is a Math teacher atthe college. She told us La Verne had called her and told her to meet us here. As we are getting ready to leave, Mary says for us to wait a couple of minutes and she would have a surprise for us. She had no sooner said this than a speeding taxi cab came driving in and two familiar people get out and came running over to the km. They were Richard Bass and Harriette Lybarger. Richard tells us he owns the largest taxi cab service in Pennsylvania. Harriette tells us she is married to a college professor, who is formerly from Malvern. We are just getting ready to take off when a large airplane comes in and lands. Mary says that the crew of this plane is four college students who have just made a record breaking non- stop flight around the world. Mary said that we would be interested to know who they were. After the plane landed they gdsout and came toward us. By this time we can see who they arekj They are four of our old classmates: Larry Du- Val, the radio man, Bob Shoemaker, the pilotg Earl Barber, the co-pilotg and Wendell Dunsdon, the mechanic. We talk to the boys awhile and we ask them why they are still in college and they said they spent eight years in the army and theyare now working on their Master's Degree in Art. We ask them to join us in a class reunion on Mars two days from now. They all say they will be glad to go so we all climb aboard our jet and take off for Tabor. We arrive in Tabor early in the morning ani we go to the Blackburn Hotelto catch up on a few hours of sleep. Some of our classmates are surprised to find Bruce Blackburn and the former Eleanor Bateman running it. We all go to bed immediately. The next morning we arise at a late hour, and at breakfast we are surprised to find Donna Rae Kempton aid her husband are the cooks. During breakfast a telephone call comes to Bruce from the railroad sta- tion, and it is Duane Mintle who had just arrived from Texas. Bruce tells him to come over to the hotel and have breakfast with us. Duane arrives in about ten minutes from the station. Duane says he is working on the King Ranch in Texas After breakfast, Twila Bell, who is now married and lives on a farm byshr ney, comes to see Eleanor nd is very surprised to see all of her old classmates Ramona Dyke and Phyllis Bownes, the two remaining members of our clasa arrive after dinner. They are both married and are living on farms at Red Oak and Coin, respectively. We now have all of our classmates together for the first time since we graduated in 1951. Bruce has his cooks prepare a big supper for all of us. We all enjoy the big meal in the dining room of the hotel. Since we are leaving tomorrow for our reunion on Mars we all go to bed early so we can get an early start. The alarm clocks go off and everyone wakes to a bright sunny morning. After breakfast we all troop to the airport to board our rocket ship. Our pilot reports everything is ready for the take off. We get in our rocket ship, T he Susie Cue Stratacruiser and head for Mars. When we land on Mars we are greet- ed by a group of Mars citizens. Among them are radio announcers, newspaper men, city officials, and many other people of importance. As we get out of the ship we hear someone yelling. Why, 1t's Bob Morrow, our classmate we lost toCa1if- ornia in November of 1950. Bob tells us he is a theatrical producer on the moon and that he flew up in his private rocket ship for the day. We decide to eat at Atomic Park. After eating, we spend the rest of the time talking over old times. We decide to have another reunion in ten years. We then board our stratacruiser, and head for home, after a very pleasant day.
