I had toyed around at the beginning of the year with a new name for the high school chorus. Several names came into mind, but none portrayed the image I wanted to get across. In fact, in one moment J of desperation, I even considered “The New and Improved High School Chorus”; but that sounded too much like a high-pressure sales pitch for laundry detergent. | Finally the name “Concert Chorale” was suggested — not an original name by any means, but one ‘that did the job. If you combine the meanings of the words “concert” and “chorale,” you have a definition for “concert chorale”: an organized group of singers performing in concord one with | another. In II Chronicles 5, Solomon is having the Ark of the Covenant placed in the newly-built Temple. | To mark this special occasion, the Levite singers and 120 trumpeters performed. There were possibly as many as 1,000 Levite singers. An amazing thing is recorded about this group of musicians. Verse 13 says that this multitude was as “one” and made “one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord.” I believe this makes reference to the fact that they were assembled for one purpose — to honor and glorify the Lord for His goodness. As a result of their singing and playing, the Temple was | filled with the glory of the Lord. This is my desire for the Concert Chorale. I pray that through our singing we will be able to fill the Temple — the individual hearts of Christians — with the glory of the Lord. Mr. Cordell | 35
