I I I I Golf Team Has Winning Season Tabb’s 1976 Golf team left 3-A competition in a blaze of glory as Regional Champs the first time ever a Peninsula school has won this honor. Members of this winning combination included seniors George Ballance, John Cinotto and Doug Lia; juniors Mike Meyers; and Jeff Kane, Greg Lia and Bill Treptow, all sophomores. Four players — Cinotto, Lia, Steiger and Treptow — represented Tabb at Sleepy Hole in Driver. With a final team total of 318, the team learned they had finished in a three-way tie for first with First Colonial and Kempsville. A two-hole playoff followed, with First Colonial and Kempsville eliminated on the first hole. Greg Lia birdied on the second hole and his teammates all parted. This was good for the title. Treptow also won the individual championship with a score of 71. Tigers competed at the State meet in Virginia Beach on May 24-25. Competition was keen, and Tabb came away with a sixth place finish. This was only 11 strokes from the winning score and four strokes from 3rd place. Congratulations to Coach Willard Hunt and his team for a super season.” Top: Team Members: J Cinotto, G. Lia, G. Baseball Ends Behind the leadership of tri-captains Pete Windham, Ken Roderick and Mike Foard, the Tabb High School varsity baseball team finished its season with an 8-3 district record and a 17-3 overall record thus completing the most successful season in the school’s short history. Individual honors were awarded to pitcher Mike Foard and catcher Mel Barbee as members of the Peninsula All- Distria First Team. Pete Windham, Ron Dillard, Ken Roderick and Kyle Bateman were selected as members of the second team. Third baseman Joey Wallace received an honorable mention for the District. Ron Dillard set new school and District records for stolen bases in one season with 20. To climax the season, Tabb won over Ferguson by 15-1, establishing a record for most runs scored in a single contest, and also for season with 128 runs. The team completed outstanding individual accomplishments together with great team balance.
