On December 6, 1973, the Seniors were tapped for the National Honor Society. This was the first year of the organization and those chosen became its Charter Members. A concession stand was operated at baseball games as a fund- raising project. In spring of 1974 the Juniors were tapped for the upcoming year. Suspense mounted as some people caught a glimpse of their parents in the back rows. Following the oath and signing of the charter, a reception with punch and cookies was held in the band room. Vouri, M. Edwards, L. Fricke, C. Hoyt. Debate Team Snatches State Title — Forensics Seizes Top Trophies Tabb High’s debate and forensics team charged ahead with determination and vigor, proving that it was possible for such a young team to work together and carry off the top trophies. With the tremendous help of Mrs. Marian Smith and Miss Barbara Zalumas, rhe phenomenal team improvet.1 by leaps and bounds. Those participating in Debate were: Cris Owens and Dan Luke who also were in Forensics, Mary Edwards, Frank Hunt, Jeff Ashby, Tom Wilburn, Rowanne Cossaboom, Marc Adkins, Cindy Baker, and Tina Hamilton. Those in Forensics, Rose McCartney, Steve Simmons, Cheryl Vouri, Cindi Hoyt, and Laura Fricke. The Debate Team won the JP Yanc 7 Award for the Best New Debate Team in Virginia. Forensics did extremely well, winning numerous trophies and awards.
