L BANK FIRST NATIONA This P096 Sponsofed by THE A Claaa Huztonq The Senior Class of 1958 started on their tour toward The Heaven of Graduation the year of 1945 We started with 25 members with only 17 of those flrst 25 answenng roll call tonight Sara Mae Vlfells Bula Ann Schmudt Marne Nuckles Rosalee Murphy Mlke McGonagle Marlorle Jones Harold Flnkenblnder Larry Clark Wlllls Bone John Ashmore Leo Flnkenblnder Carl Kohlhorst George Lewls Larry Rector Nelson Rudy Betty Tomson and Sandra Frazer As you see all of these faithful 17 are here tonlght We passed the first grade under Mlss Anna McCoy s constant teaching We are very proud of havmg been under the dlrectlon of Sarnt McCoy as we call her and also proud of being In the audltorlum dedicated to her We then ventured into the second grade under the faithful guidance of Mrs Valerla Davis There we were lolned by a present member of our class Galen Glenn making our number 18 The thlrd grade was our next goal to conquer and we dld thus with no addltlon to our 18 members However we feel that this goal would never have been accomplished had we not been under the deducated teaching of Mrs Ruby Llggett The fourth grade brought our number of 18 up to 21 by 3 present members Telva Shamburg Maxme Strnchcomb and Joyce Long Our learning minds could not have been made stronger without the help of Mrs Ray Salmans however Our flfth grade teachers are not present at Syracuse anymore but we will remember know The number 21 stall remained ID the frfth grade Thus we ventured Into our last grade school year under the dlrectlon of Mr J Parker Jones and Mr Donald Klndscher Our number of 21 was boosted up to 23 by Richard Burkhart and Lyle Barley We then made a large lump Into the seventh grade and our number was Increased by Raymond Stokes making the total 24 This fngure remained constant In the eighth grade Flnally we took the frlghtenlng step Into hugh school as Freshmen There we found out that we weren t as smart as we thought we were but our number kept Increasing by Kathleen Moser Herb Klassen and Richard Plunkett untul we had 27 members present Thus we had gained our orlglnal number and two more But this bright class didn t stop there We gained Mary Ann Ferrell and Jean Jensen In our Sophomore year ln our Junlor year Judy Rector and Marlene Englert came over from Kendall and lolned our class of 29 making a total of 31 Peggy Swlnt s arrlval an our Senior year boosted the total up So we now have 32 members In this year s graduating class wuth Larry Rector and Joyce Long as our Valedlctorlan and Salutatorlan We have now reached The Heaven of Graduatlon and wlll remember It as one of the hlghlnghts of our lrfe We thoroughly engoyed gomg to school an good ole S H S and wlsh the best of luck to the next year s graduating class Our sympathies to the Junlors for the hard struggle up the last rung of the long ladder. The club managed the school concession stand during the District Basketball Tournament as a money raising pro- Ject. The FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA chapter was very active during the past school year. Some of their major activities and awards were: attendance at leadership school at Dodge City for which they received a second place ribbon, a first place trophy in poultry judging, fourth place in the dairy contest and fifth places in the crops and farm mechanics contests. They also had a Parent-Son banquet, a Freshman Parent's night, a display window during National F.F,A, week and at least one regular meeting each month. Darrel Mcl-ienney received the American farmer degree at the national convention and the chapter re- ceived the Superior Emblem award from the state association. At the very first of the year we promoted Freshman Initiation. QSorry Freshmenlj Next was the Cinderella Q, the first big dance of the year, which was a great success. There was a Student Council Convention at Garden City, which all of the Syracuse members attendedg we collected a lot of good advice to help us during the year. Through- out the year we promoted the Football Homecoming and Basketball Homecoming in which Joyce Long and Marlene Englert reigned over the ceremonies. Our biggest project of the year was when we housed sixty members of the Fort Hays concert Choir for an overnight stay. They presenteda concert that evening. This concludes our years activities.
