964 ... A YEAR TO REMEMBER 1964 was the year SHS enrollment was boosted from 245 to 272. It was a year of freshmen discovering the be- wilderment of high school work. The sophomores, climbed to position number two on the ladder of knowledge, were now experienced individuals in the ways of school life. The juniors were busy with the prospects of producing their class play and faced with the problem of earning enough money to take the long awaited senior trip. And 43 sen- iors, after 12 years of diligent learning were now about to graduate and prepare to meet the future goals they had established. During the 1964 school year SHS students studied in seven scholastic fields with a total of 93 separate classes. The athletic-minded had a choice of five different sports in which they could participate. These sports were sparked by several enthusiastic pep sessions led by our six cheerleaders. Sock hops and convocations provided a break in the everyday routine. Of the school year we remembered our class plays, basketball games, hurried lunch hours, canteen snacks, locker chats, crowded halls, and all other things that made up 1964 . . . A YEAR TO REMEMBER.
