( laSS J lstori f School hadn ' t started because of a polio epidemic in Kosciusko County, and the first graders for the year of 19U0 were getting anxious. Then on September 20th cam« the startling news— school would start the next day, ' We gathered excitedly in otir room. This was something we had looked forward to for a long time. In this class, guided by Ruth Rapp, were thirty- five members. We were Donna Cleghom, Genevieve Dennison, Marcia Disher, Shirley Disher, Betty Broke, Dolores Druckamilier, Gwenlyn Gawthrop, Nancy Godshalk, Pat Hapner, Lucille Babcock, Dina Mench, Nancy Ray, Shir- ley Reed, Marilyn Ringler, Barbara Searfoss, Darlene Weiraer, Retha Wbgoman, Eloise Teager, Wales Cory, Arnold Doll, Robert Firestone, Darold Goon, Karl Hoover, Clifford Kistler, Martin Koher, Thomas Maggart, Merton Pepper, Ralph Rex, Arthur Sawyer, Frank Sawyer, Dean Tribble, Clifford Walton, Richard Ward, Mark Willsey, and Claire Mock, Barbara Lecount Joined the class later in the year. In the second grade, with Ruth Meredith as teacher, we found seversuL members missing. They were Nancy Godshalk, Darold Goon, Thomas Maggart, Arthur Sawyer, Beiry Droke, Eloise Yeager, Martin Koher, Ralph Rex, Mark Willsey, and Merton Pepper. The new members were Shirley Webb, Evelyn Lung, Charlotte Smith, Robert Hammer, Delbert Strieby, Theldon Horn, James Todd, Robert Whitmer, and Jim Colbert, The following year we were third grade angels under Lulu Sneider ' s wi.ng. The losses were Donna Cleghom, Efvelyn Lung, Barbara LeCount, Shirley Webb, Darlene Wfei- mer, Wales Cory, Theldon Horn, Dean Triblle, Richard Ward, Jim Gilbert, and Karl Hoover. Dolores Druckamilier was gone for half a year and then returned. The addi- tions were Charlotte Nolan, Norma Stabler, Julia Williams, Philip Nine, and Robert Woo ten. In thr fourth grade, struggling along with our firstyear of geography with Mary Gants as our teacher, we discovered we had lost several students. They were Nancy Ray, James Tbdd, and Robert Wooten, The new members were Jack DeVault, Bob Dean, Jack Dean,Deloris Frazier, Lawrence Frazier, Allen Wagner,Patsy McKinley, and Ernest Jackson. Ihe next year in the fifth grade we had Gladys Swartz for our teacher. Those welcomed into the class were Nancy Be amer, Shirley Cripe, Joan Nickels, and JackMur- phy. Donna Cleghom and Wales Cory returned thisyear and Ronald Tharp came and left. The class lost Clifford Walton, Jack DeVault, Deloris Frazier, Lawrence Frazier, Allen Wagner, Patsy McKinley and Ernest Jackson. Mr, Cook, aided by imagination and Zane Grey ' s stories, led vb through the sixth grade. There were more changes. The new students were Sharon Little, Patty Spencer, and we also regained Jack DeVault, Ida Hawks came and left. The ones lost were Del- bert Strieby, Robert Whitmer, Bob Deain, Jack Dean and Bob Hammer And then came the big step. We were in the seventh grade and actually in the high school building. This brought about another change of students. The ones lost were Joan Nickels, Jack Murphy, and Frank Sawyer, Those gained were Tom Maggart, Rosie Smith, Jim Ritter, Harold Stabler, and David Williams. Carol Layton joined the class and then left before the year was over, Dolores Drackamiller left for aw hile, and then returned, 16.
