The foreign lan- guages offered were French, Spanish, Latin, and German, a new course this year. Labs helped students to speak more fiuently and to compre- hend more readily, furthering the ties of under- standing. Sy1vania's speech and debate departments gave students the opportunity to use their minds by projecting their thoughts. Several media relate avenues of communication Spanning the vistas of communication, Syl- vania's English department was constantly adopt- ing new techniques of teaching. In its second year, the American literature lecture-seminar proved very beneficial in improving student's interest in literature. All English teachers intro- duced students to well-known authors and their Works, while reading classes increased accurate and rapid reading skills. Senior composition classes emphasized general writing skills to pre- pare pupils for college and further Work.
