W DEDICATED T0 THE MEMORY E OF IRA BAU IVIGARTN ER Educator and humanitarian are two adiectives which best apply to Ira Baumgartner who, for nearly 25 years, worked for the development of the Sylvania school system. Educator because it was to this that he devoted his life's work, the education of the young men and women of Sylvania was always foremost in his mind. Humanitarian because he was an educator, for who is more interested in the advancement of mankind than those men and women who work at teaching the future generations. Many of his hopes culminated in the building of Stranahan Elementary School of which he became principal in l956. Now, with the building of the new high school a year after his death on June 27, l958, there is an even better future for Sylvania students, this, too, was a dream of Baumie, a name by which he was known to teachers, parents, and students. Sylvania was not the only town to know Baumie, for he was active throughout the state in educational work. At the time of his death, he was executive secretary of the Northwest Ohio Teachers Association, previous to this he held countless other oFHces in organizations. Work of all kinds was the mainstay of his life, and this applied to his religious life as well. Here too he was more than active, always being willing to work on any proiect set up by his church, the Sylvania First Congregational Church. His devotion was a deep and lasting one. ' For all of these reasons, we, the staFF of the l959 Wyandotte, dedicate this book to Ira A. Baumgartner.
