This year's debate topic was Resolved: that United States Foreign Aid Should Be Substantially Increased. Other 'schools competing were Van Wert, Port Clin- ton, and Whitetord. I One of Sylvania's winning teams was composed of Claude Shufelt, Margaret Norris, Joe Mills, and Ronald Bemis. STUDENT COUNCIL SERVES STUDENTS The Student Council has taken an active part in school activities this year. They meet every Friday 5th period in the balcony to discuss ideas and make plans. The annual talent show is one ot the many activities sponsored by the Student Council. They also took part in the Sportsmanship Contest, afternoon and morning assemblies, the Polio Drive, many after- game dances, and the area Student Council Dance. Under the direction of the Senior Chaplain, Bette Dailey, the assistant Chaplain, Sue Polland, and their advisors, the council plans six chapels a year. All students are invited to attend these services regardless of religious demoninations. Selection of members is made by a faculty committee on the basis ot service, leadership, character and citizenship. The highest requirement is scholastic ability with at least a 3.5 average. An honorary organization for iournalist in B.l-l.S. is the National Quill and Scroll Society. A required amount ot written work tor Student Prints or the Wyandotte must be done tor admittance. The members held a Sponge Dance on February QI, and assembly tor students who are interested in the field ot iournalism, and on May QI, initiation ot new members. ACT WELL YOUR PART The members of Thespians have been kept busy entertaining their members, as well as members ot Drama Club. At Christmas they presented Little Women, for Drama Club and friends. On December IO, the Thespians were entertained in the home of Miss Fairchild and Miss Rose Standish tor their annual Christmas Party. N.F.L, points can be earned in debate, speaking in an assembly ot adults, and by contest speaking. The initiation of new members is always held the last Wednesday in April. During the year the Debate club attended tournaments at Columbus North, Fre- mont Ross, Port Clinton, Bowling Green and Delaware. At club meetings, the group practice debates and have general discussion periods on the National debate question. On special occasions they have outside speakers in to talk to them. MENTAL STIMLILATIONU Competition was keen throughout the year for possession for the Dailey Medal, This medal, given by Jim Dailey's parents is held by the top player. Anyone in the club challenging and defeating the possessor takes the medal. Frequent matches were played with other area schools, both in the county and Toledo. At Christmas Mr. and Mrs. Collins entertained the group in their home. Latin Club met the fourth Thursday of every month. The Banquet was held February 28. A St. VaIentine's dance was held in February. Collecting tax stamps and having bake sales were two of the money-making projects this year. All the girls helping at the regional meetings obtained points toward their degree from the state. Delegates in the spring were sent to the state meeting at Columbus to represent Sylvania's FHA. Blue Triangle enjoyed swimming parties at the downtown Y as their principle outside activity. For school at their meetings, the group enjoyed panel discussions on topics of interest.
