In times gone by, when the student has need of assistance for some reason, his instructor in the school was the last one he would have thought of con- tacting as a friend. The word Hteacherv brought on a vi- sion of a stern-faced individual armed with a ruler and Q a frown. It is interesting to note how this picture has changed through the years. f. I A A. They have traded their rule for rea- son. They are willing to sacrihce their time and talents for our beneht. We donit always approve of their assign- mentsg we consider some of their subjects a little onthe boresome sideg but we value their help and understand- ing nonetheless. Teachers often prove their friendship for their pupils by going far beyond the call of duty to offer them aid. We're proud to call our faculty of today our friends. Superintendent of Sylvania Schools This year Mr. Baumgartner completes his 22nd year as Su- perintendent of Schools in Sylvania, having seen the system grow from a small one to one of the largest exempted village districts in the state. Mr. Baumgartner, with his cheery smile and affable way, has done much to make our school years prontable and pleasant. 6 Principal of Burnham High School Another year at Burnham High School has come to a close for Mr. Laman, likeable and congenial principal of our school. This completes Mr. Laman's third successful year in the halls of our Alma Mater-three full years of advising his pupils and bet- tering Burnham High. He has proved that he is a friend to all, ready and willing to co-operate with the students. He has worked hard and long to build a better Burnham High School and be- cause of his tireless efforts, we can be proud of our school. 7 The big important job of guiding students and activities, centered around the deans oflice, is stressed in a kindly attitude to promote friendship among students and faculty. Our deans, Miss Standish and Mr. Virtue, have proved to be a very important factor of Burnham High School. DEAN S Board of Education of Sylvania Schools The board of education meets to discuss the problems involved in governing the school system for Sylvania Township. Here they are shown at one of their regular meetings. Mrs. Frederick Osgood, Elmer Hogg, G. E. Swope, Norman Bischoff, C. V. Courtney, Marsh Howard, Carl Comstock. 8 Handling the countless details that go in- to the successful operation of our school sys- tem are assistant clerk, Mrs. Lora Randall left, and Mr. Arthur Bloomberg, clerk right. ' Two of the busiest people in Burnham High School are Mrs. Ann Frantz who serves as secretary to the principal and Mrs. Kate Young who spends her time doing the many things that are needed in keeping an office in efficient working condition. Responsible for the meals served in the cafeteria are the following cooks: Mae Lew- is, Lillian Miller, Ethel Trowbrige. ROY BECKER THAD S. ABELL RONALD V. ADAMS GEORGE R. BLA KEMAN IDA H. Guilty! Lonely? Skippin' classes llNllllllCLASSMA EL f-'H nl' 1 J X! IT HAS BEEN SAID that a real friend is one who knows you but still loves you. One of the immortal ex- amples of friendship is the story of David and Jonathan. Jonathan in his youth acquired an affection for David which was warmly returned and which lasted throughout their lives. Few people recall the actual facts of the story, but it is remembered for the true and lasting friendship it presents. During our school years we make many new ac- quaintances, but, as time goes on, it is diHicult to remem- ber the exact appearance of our high school classmates even though these friendships were real. We remember few of the experiences we shared with them, but the warmth of their friendship still surrounds us, as does the story of David and jonathan. In days to come, when we leaf through these pages, we hope that these young faces will recall old friendships and bring back memories of classmates true. , i Shown fron right to left are the Junior Class oflicers: Marian Lacy Preszdentg Lois Fisher Vice Presidentg Sue Robitaille Secre- taryg Shirley Conrad Treasurer. Saying that Tom is sports-minded is certainly an accurate de- scription because this football star also plays bas- ketball and baseballg however, athletics is not his only interest. Much of his time is taken up by Student Council and other organizations. He is a member of Senior Hi-Y. Drama Club and the National Thespian Society benefit from his in- terest in dramatics. This popular blonde, blue-eyed senior is none other than JUDY DOWNING. Besides being secretary of her class, Judy is a member of GAA, Leaders Club, Senior Y-Teens, and the Wyandotte staff. Through her high school years Judy has held positions of leadership but has still remained a popular and likeable girl. They were Laurie Spitzenberger, Ken Renshler, Judy Edwards, Bobbie Eley, Judy MacDonald, Janet Leutz, Betty JC Yerg, Phil Coventry, and David Elliot. Bobbie Eley had the even higher honor of being selected to play in the all state orchestra. We certainly should extend congratulations to Mr. Paul Eley, director, who along with the students worked to make this orchestra of Burn- ham High School one of the finest in the state. 0llGA lZA'l'I0 xlr 'T' 'W if lt, As the years roll by the students of Burnham will always remember their years as club members of the various or- ganizations. The clubs offer leadership and social contact for many of the students. By belonging to these groups, our young people develop interests which often lead to the careers of their later lives. The organizations give well rounded programs at each meeting. From the eighth grade to the semor class there is a club to meet the interest of every student. The advisors for these organizations are the teachers of Burn- ham. With good spirit they take time from their own busy schedules to help the students with their meetings and programs. We will always be grateful for their help and encouragement. CHAPEI. COLINCIIL nieinhers are-SEA TED: A. Musick, Miss Standish, B. Dailey. SECOND ROW: M. Martin, B. Renshlcr, J. Lutz, S. These girls are interested in playing all sports and working toward points for their school letter, numerals and if they're really athletic, a trophy. It takes 750 points for a letter, 1000 for numerals, and l500 for a trophy which every good athletic wants. GIRLS .Guard harp, Watch the birdie. t 1Jon't they look energetic? She always looks that Wayy SPORTS There will always remain the memories of Intramurals, of Basketball, Volleyball, and Kick- pin, and the class tournament between the Senior, Junior, and Sophomore girls, of which came about by picking the best players from these grades. We have the Health Room for those who wish to use it. Although we didn't have our annual Dance Capades there was still the practicing of Modern Dancing. n And away we go.
