Faced by problems that are besetting school boards across the country, the Sylvania group has worked to provide good educational facilities for an ever growing school population in the face of rising costs. Within the last five years the enrollment in the local schools system has risen from 2699 to 3776. Additions have been built on each of the existing grade schools and our new grade school is nearing completion. Plans are afoot now for a new high school in the future. Two of the busiest people in Burnham High School are the deans, Miss Standish and Mr. Virtue, whose offices are always open to students who wish to discuss their problems. The deans also take care of attendance for ll5O Burnham students. Principal of Burnham High School Mr. Laman's second year as principal at Burnham confirmed the impression made his first year. He has always been fair, firm, and deeply interested in having everyone-himself, Teachers, and students-do the best iob possible to make Burnham a smoothly running and productive place. 23

Mrs. Ann Frantz serves as secretary to the principal while Mrs. Kate Young spends her time typing up daily attendance sheets and running ol? tests for 46 teachers. Mrs. Lora Randall, center, has served as clerk of the Sylvania Board of Education for 21 years. Mrs. Kathryn Randall, left, is assistant clerk, while Mrs. Verna Buck is secretary to the superintendent.
