At the football game preceding the dance, the Glow-Worm, the senior mascot, made its first appearance. The next event on our calendar was the theater party held at a downtown theater. The month of May found us nearing the end of days in Burnham with many activities taking up our time. They included the senior play, the prom, Baccalaureate, and finally graduation night, May 25. The following day many of us took a boat trip to Niagara Falls for our senior trip. Jerry Schwen was our pilot and was ably assisted at the wheel by Ann Turner, co-pilot. Janis Jinser charted the course and Ray Smith collected the fares of the l6O seniors. Our advisers were Mr. Abell, Mr. Bliss, and Mrs. Collins. ,3 DON BAKER BUD ALDRICH , .3 An oll oround student The curfew must not ring whom we recommend, tonight. , . . ' K 1 E f gi , A. CLASSES xii Jean Maiyo, President, Charlotte Fallis, Vice-President, Peggy Ritchie, Treasurer For their third year at Burnham the class of SS chose as their officers Jean Maiyo, President, Charlotte Fallis, Vice-President, Barbara Growden, Secretary, and Peggy Ritchie, Treasurer The Juniors had a very successful year planning many oustanding activ- ities with the help of advisors, Mr. Roy Becker and Mrs. Bernice Musick. Among these activities were the Junior Prom, held December l9, at the Woman's building in Toledo, two dances after football and basketball games, and a roller skating party. They planned the Junior-Senior farewell and added two feathers to their cap when Lowell Mays became the first Junior to be elected Student Judge, and David Woodward was elected to the Toledo Blade all GNC football team. The class leaves behind memories of a never-to-be-forgotten Junior year. , Ackland S X- Q. 'D K ' 'Q ,J fx v. X' 2 J , 9 E f X1 I, He 1 K ' ffl . The Sophomores started the year with a burst of social life inspired by football games. The class was proud of its three majorettes - Joyce Agle, Mary Kortier, and Joan Norworyta - who did a fine job with their high-stepping and twirling batons. Harold Booth, another sophomore, played on the vars- ity football team for the full season. ln October the class sponsored a round-and-square dance party. Another dance was held in February which everyone enjoyed. These occasions will indeed be fond memories for the class of l956. 49 fr l. fig., mf' 4 ,gf :ik . . if J-Jig.,-.5 , 'xl '14 L: f K ',,,-wa. ., 'Q g.. ' When the 9th grades become seniors in l957, they can look back on their freshman year as nine months of fun and enjoyment, parties and picnics, besides, of course, their usual studies. They'Il remember that the year started off with a picnic in Burnham Park. The next get- together was on January 23, at a round and square dance called January Jump which took place in Burnham's Hall. 57 ' N.. is A? We were host to Bryan, whom we defeated l2-6 to make it a perfect evening. The Queen Meridel Sype, and her attendants, Mary Lou Lent, Nancy Matheny, Patricia Ridge, and Janice Zinser were chosen by members of the football team. Meridel, wearing the traditional white fur coat, belonging to Miss Alice Saniford, was crowned during the halftime show by Mrs. Mae Kendall. After the game, the festivities moved to the old auditorium which was decorated with pastel pom-poms and a huge glittering crown in the center of the ceiling. Students and alumni danced to the enchanting music of John Nofziger and his band. Queen Meridel, seated at an elaborate throne with two attendants on either side was, of course, the center of attraction. The dancing ended at l:OO a.m. and all left with another wonderful memory of Burnham High School.
