C4-L. Chief yan DON BROWN, popular senior boy, was chosen by the student body to reign over the yearbook as Chief Wyan. This is the third year in succession that one of the Brown brothers has attained this high honor. As president of the Hi Y Donnie has proved to be a capable leader. He is definitely sports minded, as he was one of the starting five on the basketball court and often took medalist honors on the golf team. Also on Donnie's activities list is reporting for the Student Prints. Always neat in a sweater and slacks, Don- nie is by far one of the sharpest senior boys. Princess Dotte Princess Dotte, chosen for her popularity and personality, is SUE MCEVERS, a cute, brown- eyed senior. Naming something Sue lSN'T in would be easier than naming what she is in, for she is president of FBLA, a member of GAA, Lead- ers, Y Teens, Drama, Thespians, and a var- sity cheerleader. She served as eighth grade president and has held positions of leader- ship in her activities all through her high school years. Despite her elevation to top positions, Sue has maintained the all-around personality that charms everyone she meets. Finding Sue with- out a smile and a cute remark for all would be very rare. HOM ECCDMI G Annual Homecoming was held Oc- tober 3l, the witches night to ride, at the Memorial Field. Queen Rosann Steinwand and her attendants, Marie Criefelt, Kathleen Ott, Kathryn Bry- ant, and Sue Reed, all seniors, arrived in shiny, new convertibles to their football field court. Burnham Varsity were hosts to Whitmer at this big event. Queen Rosann handed the ball to the captain and the game began. Rosann wore the traditional white fur coat of Miss Alice Sanitord's. Spanish and Engl ish teacher. Picture on the left shows Rosann Steinwand, voted to reign at the an- nual game by Burnham students, be- ing crowned by the preceding year's lovely Queen, Patsy Kelly. l952 Homecoming Dance was held in Burnham's old auditorium with Rod Repass and his band furnishing the music. The auditorium was gaily dec- orated in a mardi gras theme. A com- mittee of seniors planned the festive event. Rosann and her attendants reigned from l0:30 to 1:00 with a grand march climaxing the evening, Although BHS lost to Whitmer, the results of the dance were wonderful. A huge crowd of both Burnham and Whitmerites attended to dance before the Queen's court. ,,0' Junior Prom 5 84 MN zz 'l Toledo Yacht Club was the spot chosen by the juniors tor their prom appropriately e nti t l e d Midwinter Dream which was held December l3, Jack Runyon's orchestra played for dancing from 9 p.m. to l a.m. General chairman for the event was David Lindau. Faculty members in attendance in- cluded Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Cotterman, Mr. and Mrs. James Zechman, Mr. Richard Sutch, and Miss Clenna Rein' lein. Class advisers are Mr. Robert Wale and Mrs. Exalena Collins. ith l I! UW' Queen ot Hearts Dance, which was re-initiated this year on February l4, was sponsored by the Vocational Department, It was a gay occasion in the i953 halt ot the school year. Jackie Sanderson, escorted by Don Brown, reigned as Queen of the festivities. Serving as her attendants were Anita Postlewait, freshrnang Ann Gee, sophomore: Janice Zinzer, junior, and Marilyn Hudson, senior. ACTIVITIES tudent Prints Publishing a bi-monthly paper has kept the Journalism II class on their toes all year. One of their main goals was the Columbia Scho- lastic Press Convention which they attended in New York in March. The Prints was en- tered in the national contest. Mr. Frederick Marlo put much time, effort, and patience into advising the staff. Q 2 This year Mr, Fred Marlo gave up his job as Wyandotte adviser to Miss June Stiller, who has done an excellent job at her position. Staff met every Wednesday after school to paste up pictures for the year book. Kickoff campaign was held in January, with the students voting for Princess Dotte and Chief Wyan, an annual affair. 1953 Wyandotte staff can be credited with the start of a tradition-using a seal on the cover of the book. This seal will appear on all the future Wyandottes. Nan-I Court Taking action on disciplinary measures and backing the hall patrol have been the chief duties of the student court this year. The court, rather than taking advantage of the power of punishment, has tried to analyze each student's problem with careful consideration. In this way, those who have broken school regulations find a helping hand in our student court. John Gee served Burnham well in the position of judge. Miss Rose Standish and Mr. Roy Mansfield advised this legal staff. ln one of the biggest campaigns ever witnessed by Burnham students, Joyce Meredith was elected to serve as student body president and has proved herself equal to the job. Only twice in this high school's history has a girl ruled, and both times the school flourished under such leadership. The student council meets twice a month to discuss plans and projects for school improvement. Representatives from all grades compose the council and Mr. Thad Abel and Mr. Robert Schultz completed their first year as ad- visers. Besides the regular meetings, numerous executive, committee, and sub-committee meetings were held which combined both time and effort. Ann Turner did an effective job as vice president and Dick Follas served as treasurer along with the secretary, Pete Kendall. r-,-,- f Student T Student Council Bookroom Staff Those covers you pull ott your books are put on by the book room staff for a purpose--to keep the hard covers of your books clean. Staff is in charge of checking and repairing all rips and tears in your books, locating lost books, and issuing new ones. Few realize the hard work that goes into taking care of the books. Mrs. Thelma McConnell is in charge of the staff. .luke Box Operators Almost everyone enjoys dancing af- ter a basketball or football game. But perhaps the most unappreciated per- son is the one who makes it possible for you to dance. This person is none other than the juke box operator. The boys are re- liable and enjoy their work. They have done a truly wonderful job this year. Hall Patrol May I see your hall permit? Try to get to class on time after this, This familiar ring was made by stu- dents of senior high who gave up their free time to help maintain order in Burnham halls. Earlier in the year, each hall patrolman was presented a Student Leader badge which was to be worn while on duty. Under the guidance of Miss Rose Standish, Dean of Girls, and Mr. Roy Mansfield, Dean of Boys, the members did an excellent job.
