Oswix XVADEYVITZ Pliysiml Education Chairman SCIENCE DEPARTMENT Science and the search for students with scientific talents has become a matter of national concern. Sylvan's science program and science teachers are doing much to discover and develop those talents and abilities possessed by our stu- dents. The program is designed to begin in the very first year of high school and continue throughout the high schooi years. VVith this program and the devoted men and women who teach it, Sylvan students are well prepared to continue their studies in this field. SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT Man is a social animal both in his personal and group life. It becomes necessary, then, to study the social relationship of the past and present. Through the study of geography. history, government, economics, and social problems, stu- dents learn useful lessons for their personal lives, their busi- nesses, and their political participation. The teachers in this department lead their students in the important function of learning how better to understand themselves and their fel- lowmen throughout the world. MUSIC DEPARTMENT The quality of the Sylvan Blusic Department is well- known and recognized. This was, perhaps, their finest year. The excellent showings made by the vocal and instrumental groups in the State Ifestivals gave us all additional reasons to be proud of our school. The willingness of the members of the department to do whatever they are called upon to do has endeared them to the school and community. XVe look forward to the concerts and other appearances of these groups each year and look back on past performances with warm appreciation. PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT Physical htness is an important concern to all of us. livery school is obligated to provide a physical program in order that our bodies may be more able to bear the stresses of living in our modern, hectic world. Physical fitness also aids in the development of our mental processes and thereby enables us to profit more from the academic pursuits of schooling. Our four physical education teachers are charged with this program of health and physical training. In their classes the good habits of healthful living are learned that will be of great value throughout our lives. gi .LL 19 S, 7 f WV' Miss Gin. Rice Englixli DIRS. NIARY SHEPPARD slr! Chairman MRS.
