Line play by Ronnie Hill was outstanding, with Bur- nett bulling his way into pay dirt for both T.D.'s. Alvin Davis' toe held true for both P.A.T.'s. SYLVAN 7-SMITH 13 After a hard battle Sylvan was edged by Smith. Impressive punting by Gene Cunningham and the running of Tommy Burnett kept Sylvan's hope alive. Also impressive in the backfield were Howard Stone, Jerry Williams and Henry Teague. SYLVAN 28-FULTON 7' , .1 Gene Cunningham led Sylvqn back into the South-- ern Championship race with his 98-yard punt return for a T.D. Other scores came on Alvin Davis' 4l-yard pass to Toby Williams, and an Il-yard smash by Terry Meaders. Outstanding in Sylvan's line were Rodney Norvell, Toby Williams, and Louie Gomez. SYLVAN 26-HAPEVILLE 2 Hard running by Terry Meadors, Henry Teague, Tommy Burnett and Gene Cunningham, and the pass- ing of Alvin Davis to receiver Jim Davis were the answers to Sylvan's victory. SYLVAN 33-SOUTHWEST 7 The Bears powerhoused a victory over the Wolves with the T.D.'s by Henry Teague, Gene Cunningham, Tommy Burnett, and Rodney Norvell, and the pass- ing of Alvin Davis. P.A.T.'s were scored by Burnett, Teague, and Frapart. SYLVAN 'I9-ROOSEVELT 7 in Sylvan's Bears romped over Roosevelt with Teague, Meaders, and Toby Williams scoring for the Bears. The defense was spearheaded by Louie Gomez, Rausey Mason, Ronnie Propes, and Lester Dooley. SYLVAN 27-NORTHSIDE 32 The Tigers scored in the 4th quarters to nip Sylvan by 5 points. In the backfield, Davis, Cunninghamf Stone, Burnett, Meaders, and Teague gave outstand- ing performances. Burnett scored 3 of Sylvan's T.D.'s, and Toby Williams rounded out the scoring with a 26-yard pass from Alvin Davis. SYLVAN 'I9-BROWN 131 The Bears turned in an award-winning performance against Brown with Cunningham scoring 3 T.D.'s to lead the Bears into the Southern Title. Alvin Davis' passing and line play by Louie Gomez, Toby Williams, Jim Davis, Ronnie Hill, Rodney Norvell, Ronnie Propes, Lester Dooley, Sammy Letson, Bill Johnson, and Rausey Mason were also impressive. Sterling perform- ances in the backfield were given by Henry Teague, Tommy Burnett, Jerry Williams, Terry Meaders, and Howard Stone. The win climaxed Sylvan's most im- pressive season with a final standing of: Won 7-Lost 3. The win also put the Bears into the playoff game with Grady for the City Championship on Novem- ber 20.
