Q1 ............. ............ 1 'ml .......... 2 .............. .... 2 . .......... .... 3 ........ .... .......... 1 ' ............. 1 - .............. 1 ' ,,,,,,,, 4 . ...... .. .,..2 ......... ..2 Q-onuonsul casa ..... .-..'..4 Seruwt Gfatw, gcld The frrst day of school September 49 was very frrghtenmg to us thrrteen t1m1d freshmen as we slowly ascended the stalrs for our frrst day 1n hlgh school All along we knew that the worst was yet to come Frnally the day arrrved the senlors 1n1t1ated us It wasn t as bad as we thought rt would be rn fact rt was fun The g1r1s had to wear men s pajamas and the boys wore mghtgowns The entlre class was requested to wear a dunce cap overshoes and mrttens We also had to get the srgnature of each seruor and carry therr books We cnose Art Goldgrabe as our presrdent Laura Raedeke v1ce presrdent Kenny Blase secretary treasurer and Mrs Easterly class sponsor LaDonna was chosen one of the school cheerleaders ln 1950 we became sophomores and attended our frrst whole year of school 1n the new school bulldrng We SI111 had thrrteen members rn our class although there was a slrght change Laura Brown moved to Burr Oak and Mar1lyn Rernert from Vesper Jorned us We chose Mr LeRoy Cross as our class sponsor Our class offrcers for th1s year were Mar1lyn Rernert presrdent Glorra Oberndorfer vrce presrdent Elarne Grer secretary Clem Frederkrng treasurer Student Councrl representatrves were Glorra and Art LaDonna was chosen cheerleader from the sophomore class and also one of the queen s attendants At the end of the year the grrls had the honor of servrng at the Iumor Semor Banquet The second half of our hrgh school days began when we entered school as Junrors rn 1951 We lost another one of our class members Laura Raedeke who moved to Alma Kansas Mr Wallace Blackwood was our sponsor Junror class offrcers were Kenny Blase presrdent Art Goldgrabe vxce presrdent LaDonna Trapp secretary Clem Frederkrng treasurer LaDonna was elected class cheerleader Lead Never Follow was chosen as our motto As class act1v1t1es we presented mov1es tw1ce a month to the publrc we had several booths at the all school carmval and also held our second successful paper dr1ve Mar1lyn Rernert had the honor of berng chosen Homecommg Queen from our class and LaDonna as one of her attendants We presented our Junror class play Tamrng the Brat 1n the fall It was a comedy wrth a cast of ten srx women and four men In Apr1l 1952 we entertarned the semors of 52 w1th a banquet and prom The theme was The Last Round Up On September 2 1952 the green freshmen of 1949 entered Sylvan Hrgh School as proud sophxstrcated semors to complete therr educanon Agam we lost another member of our class Gertrude Rahme1er who got marrled after school was out last spr1ng Our class offrcers were Mar1lyn Rernert presrdent Glor1a Oberndorfer vrce presrdent LaDonna Trapp secretary Art Goldgrabe treasurer Mrss Thoren was chosen as class sponsor Four members of the class were members of the Student Councll They were Art Goldgrabe presrdent of the student councrl Clem Frederkrng vrce presrdent Glorra Oberndorfer and Kenny Blase class representatrves As class act1v1t1es we held a magazrne campa1gn 1n October 1952 We presented our semor class play th1s sprmg It had a cast of eleven f1ve women and SIX men We were guests of the Junror class at then banquet and prom Ih1S spr1ng We also had food stands at all football basketball and baseball games LaDonna was chosen as attendant to the football queen As we part we say good by to dear old S H S and our fr1ends only to meet w1th frrends of a brgger school the school of l1fe So as we graduate rn 1953 we frrmly belreve that the happy days spent at Sylvan Hrgh shall never be erased from our memorres U U . , . . . . . , , , . . . , . : ' , . , . . . . ' ' : , : . . , 1 ' , ' - ' : ' . . . 7 -. c u a A I A, .Tuphecg During the middle of May LD the Sprrng of 1953 the Senla' class on thexr departure dectded to rn tke the year 1973 the reunion date for thetr class The ftrst to arrlve at the scene ls Marxlyn Reinert She has been teaching in the Union Valley School and strll drivrng her uncle s Model A Ford She thought by tlus tlme she would have some of her own to teach but it seems that her steady hasn t popped the all rmportant questxon yet Maybe this eil-l be the year She seems to have a gleam rn her eye Well who does this bxg streamllnes bus belong to that JLLSI drove up It seems that after Ray Bolte graduated from Sylvan Hrgh School he went rnto the freld of music He took over Sl Lumbago Orchestra and named it The Sweetest Music on the West Slde of Main Street He now has a two week engagement at Wrley Grand Hotel The next to arrrve IS Elatne Gler As soon as school was out Elatne got mamed and had-been pretty busy raislng her frve boys Shortly after thetr marrrage she and her husband moved to Wisconsin and started a dalry farm Next to strlde onto the scene 1s Art Goldgrabe He came back to Sylvan and took over the posttion of Superintendent of the Hlgh School As you know the population of Sylvan has increased over the twenty year period so now there rs an attendance of about frve hundred Hrs main 1dea was to adopt a new method of gradlng by wh1ch they would do away with tests Thls he successfully accomplrshed lt seems that Annamaye Welnhold has done pretty well for herself After she graduated she went to college ln Des Moines Iowa She couldn t qtute decrde what she wanted to take but shetdecided on desrgmng She now has a big establlshment ln Parxs France destgnlng clothes for Paris Fashions Anne was sorry she could not be with us but she thought her job was more rmportant Her last name 15 the same so we take it she rs not married yet Well look who just came Our own movre producer Eddre Herman from Stlver Fox Studio You recall his wtte ts a graduate from the class of 54 He has been very successful producmg prctures Some you have no doubt seen recently Oh yes their twins Eddre Jr and Joycelyn have just signed a contract to be tn the next prcture he produces Here comes the etrel farmer from our clan Clem Frederkmg He settled down On a also ln developing A new breed of plgs He told us he ls st1ll working on the name but hopes have one soon At the present trme Clem and his srxteen year old son are drawxng up plans for a large country home Say who is tlus comrng up the walk'7 It rs none other than the former Glorla Obemdorfer Glcxia went to Kansas Cxty for nurse s tranung After she became a Registered Nurse she decided to travel abroad and later went to work in a London hospltal While there she met a student doctor After he graduated they were married and are now worklng in a hospital of their own We are very fortunate to have with us another graduate of 53 He ls Alvin Werdman A Mounted Policeman He ts now living IH Alaska You remember in 1952 the hrgh school was robbed of its funds robbed of tts funds The thieves were reported to be very dangerous After seven years of hard work he fmally traced these desperados to the Yukon Country They are now safely locked up and are servtng llfe sentences Another classmate Kenny Blase also went tnto the muslc bustness but rn a lrttle drfferent style He Joined up with the Brand New Opry After he srgned a contract with one of the most famous recordrng compan1es he was bounded by movte and televlsron scouts Last but not least to arrrve rs LaDonna Trapp She earned out her ambrtlon of becomtng a Home I-lconomtcs teacher at Kansas State College She stlll IS teaching but some day hopes to take up housekeeping of her own Now that most of the class was present we settled down for a brg evemng of frm and conversation 4,452 We the Sensors of Sylvan Hrgh School betng of brllhant and sound minds do not make tlus our last wxll and testament but upon leaving the Sylvan High School want to cheerfully assrgn and bequeath our followlng charactertstlcs and ambltlons to the lower classmen hopmg wholeheartedly that they w1ll use them to the best of their abtllty LaDonna Trapp wills her well fltted clothlng to Glenna Stulve Alvln Weidman wrlls hrs ablllty to mop up the Home Ec floor after basketball games to Frank Mueller Gloria Oberndorfer wills her llkxng for hlllbllly musrc to Mr Dawson Elaine Gier wrlls ber abtlrty to get a diamond ring ln her senlot year to Hilda Saenger Kenny Blase wills his argtunents tn class to Bobby Dlers Marilyn Relnert wllls her abll1ty to drive a model A Ford to school to Lois Peter Eddie Herman wtlls hrs broad shoulders to Billy Wenthe Annamaye Weinhold wills her abrllty to get up at 4 00 o clock in the morning to study her lessons to Dean Thaemert Ray Bolte wrlls his blg feet to Patty Bender Clem Frederking wrlls his many trips to Culver to Wendell Naegele S ' . . , . . , . . . . . , , . . , .
