With the thoughts of the successful finish of the basketball season the previous year still lingering, the l949-50 squad began the season witii the same determination that inspired them before. This determination continued through- out tne season and this squad under the eX- cellent ccacning of Robby Roberson brought Scnool oi the finest to Sycamore High baskctball records it gias ever zgad. lflany games of the ll gainff schedule were exciting and a few were very close but perhaps lin? one tiiat stands out our ininds is the league ganie with Salem. Tziis garzie played on the Sycamore Hardcourt before an overflowing crowd drew countywide atiention due io Saiern's past record. Friday the tiiirteentgi was the day and it was the thirteenth game of the season for each team. Sycamore won this game, defeating Salem for the first time in seven years. During Christmas Vacation an Invitational Basketball Carnival was held here. Mt. Corey- Rawson, New Riegel, and Leesville, teams that seemed to be outstanding in tlieir respective counties, were invited to rartzciraie. Sycamore ,von this tcurnarrient and a trophy for tie school. The Sycamore basketball teaiii firiisied the regular season undefeated arid '.-:exit on to win the County Tournament. Entering the District Tournament as the top seeded team we won our first garre frorii the Hurori County Cham- pions, New Haven. Qur next gariie wiiicii was our last was with Sulphur Springs wiio de- feated us in what was called an upset . For six boys, Dale Moyer, Harvey Riedel, Bob Bell, Ronald Konkle, Glen Wagner and Lewis Bell this was the finish of their high school basketball careers. Glen and Bob who were the high point men, Ronald and Dale who played such stellar defensive ball as well as garnering points when needed, Harvey who nearly always got the tip off and Lewis who did his best wiienevrr needed, will be greatly missed. All were stellar perforriiers arid Coach Roberson will have his problems in trying to fill their shoes for the coming year.
