Q I JL Klum, Jlmfoful, We boarded the train at Sycamore station ready and eager to go. Our first eight stops were minor ones but we enjoyed our visit in each one very much. The ninth stop, Columbus, was all we had waited for. We looked the town over good before starting to take part in any events. On October 27, l943, we took part in the first event. lt was called Freshman lnitiation. We enjoyed the charming costumes and dresses that were styled that day even though we were wearing them. During our stay in Columbus, one of our fellow passengers, Bob Ekle- berry, was put on the Varsity Basketball team. We lingered. We lingered in Columbus for some time but soon moved on our way. Chicago! All out for Chicago! The tenth stop on our way and after taking count of our passenger list we found that there were now 3l passen- gers instead of 32. We had lost one between stations. While in Chicago we decided we could become actors and actresses so we put on a play- Hillbilly Courtship which was a great success. During our brief stay in Chicago another one of our boys, Charles Lamb, was put on the Varsity Basketball team. We also had the good fortune to have three of our girl classmates elected as cheerleaders. They were: .lean Gregg, Helen McCormick, and Christina Everheart. Next stop, Denver! All outl While in Denver we purchased our Junior class rings. We were very proud of these and could hardly wait until we got them. To make a little money while there, we sold magazines to all our friends and neighbors. This money was put away for future use while on our trip. We also sold pop and popcorn at the Basketball games for finances. During our visit in Denver we put on another successful play, .lumpin' Jupiter. To top our visit here we went to a formal dance-Jr.-Sr. Banquet, spon- sored by us. The passengers put their best outfits on and had a gala time iespecially when the stars started to falll. Moving on our way we finally stopped in. San Francisco, with a passenger list of only 22. Here we took in a few parties and put on another play, Her Emergency Husband. We really believe this play was the cause of Mary Etta Bell and Annabelle Hufford getting married. On Jr.-Sr. Day we split the games between us and shared in the fun. Some of our classmates played on the Varsity team and four of the belles of the class were cheerleaders. 'JL glam, Jhbiony, f6'nn5L.j We went to parties galore and took in another grand banquet. This one was especially for us. Also we were taken into the Alumni. We enjoyed the banquet that they had for us. The climax came when we were handed our diplomas for good work all twelve years at Commencement on May 23, l946, Our trip was enjoyed very much by everyone and even though we went through some scrapes, we all stuck together on the true course. So bid us Farewell as we each enter into our own seperate part of the world. '11, flaw, p!1D,t2h.QiClj, SENIORS OF '46 They tell me there's no harm in dreaming, so I set myself down in the good-ole-easy chair, with a coke by my side, II may need refreshmentl What should appear before me but my old classmates of Sycamore High ten years hence. According to the Queen of Dreams this is what they have, shall we say, accomplished? JOHN BROWN has started the famous Brown Bombers Circus tour. He is a wild man, strong man, and trapeze performer and he even sells popcorn between acts. MARY E'l'l'A and Doc are living in Tiffin and have their own cab com- pany. Their children are the cabbies. So far they have five cabs in operation. CHARLES YOUNG is an elevator operator in Penny's. That is the only way he could keep up with people. MARCILE and Mick are living in Alaska and have a very fine fur indus- try, haven't you heard of the famous MICK and CILE coats? CLARABELLE MARTIN is the new Home Demonstration Agent. She demonstrates chiefly new ways to fix olives. DONNA HUSHOUR is still listening in on the confidential business of the playboy HUGH DAVIS, JR., as he reluctantly drops his nickle in the slot at the first phone booth in the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. Now the Queen of Dreams floats before me and drifting along behind her is a far more domestic side of our class. MIRIAM HETZEL Heimrick was the first to pass our view and I now see that she is very happy mending Bob's shirts and the babies panties. She hopes in a couple of years to let her oldest daughter take over. '11, Klan, p!I.0plI.QClj. ffonij ANNABELLE IHUFFORDI DILLON is not so happy as she scrubs her fingers to the bone trying to get those beautiful white towels clean that Dewey has gotten all greasy from the station. GEORGE MARGRAF and Mary are still the lovey-dovey couple that we used to meet in the halls as he helps her with the dishes and she helps him milk the cows. MARILYN HANOVER and her assistant HELEN MCCORMICK are super- vising the Lunitics at Large Hospital. Maggie charms them with her pleasing personality, while Marilyn scares the meanness out of them with her loud talk. CLAIRE PRATT is also at this hospital, she puts the patients through their daily exercise. They get their exercise by picking Claire up off the floor, lshe never could stand up on the gym floor.I We now see CHARLES LAMB ESQ., after he has finally received his engineering degree at Toledo U. and is pacing the streets of Washington try- ing to secure a patent for his new machine, lKiss me again baby, I'm still conscious.I We find Reverend MARION BUD HANOVER reverently preparing his Sunday morning sermon. We always knew Bud had it in him. As we peer into the spotless windows of Winona's Beauty Salon we see Stew busily giving JEAN GREGG the famous atomic treatment. lThat's just a little penicillin mixed with mud.I Jean has acquired the position as lst model for John Robert Powers. Jean even calls him Johnny. Two of our class are touring the country giving lectures. EULl'l'l'A DROLL is telling the people about her trip through the U. S. on a kangaroo. NORMAN WALTON is lecturing on how to grow super special Ohio Certified Seed Corn. lt's all corn and no cob. BEVERLY ROBERTS is gray headed and not married. After getting her nurses degree she was busily taking patients pulse and holding their heads. Now Beverly has traded places with some of her patients. She still can't decide between those ex-sailors. They always were a worry to her. Here's where I need the refreshment. The Queen of Dreams drifts past again closely followed by the happy-go-lucky sports of the Class. CHRIS- TINA and Zip are traveling the world with the famous Zippers Basketball Team. Zip coaches their 5 boys in the fundamentals of basketball and Christina teaches their 2 girls the art of cheerleading for their famous brothers. Zoom! What was that? None other but CHARLES TOOLEY in his jet propelled plane taking the Queen of Dreams back to her throne. Charles is her personal escort, you know. l Clam, CcJ1ZL We the Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Forty-six being sound in mind and body do hereby bequeath the under-clossmen the following: MARY ETTA BELL wills her hamburgers and onions to Esther Walters so it will help her fill out those sweaters. JOHN BROWN wills his sleeping ability to Mort Weininger who needs some extra hours. BUTCH DAVIS wills his slick-chick talk to Eugene Droll who doesn't have much to say. CHRISTINA EVERHART wills Zip to Betty Volkmer so she won't have to look up for once. l Christy's kidding of course. J MARCILE GEARY wills her ability to keep those late hours and yet be able to walk straight the next morning to Marion Kuncy who seems to be late for school so much. JEAN GREGG wills her horseback riding ability to Gladys Ekleberry so she won't feel so bruised the next time she hits the ground. CHARLES LAMB wills his towering heighth to Jack Anderson. I think we'll agree that he needs some extra inches added. DONNA HUSHOUR wills her ability to wear those up-sweeps to Margaret Walton. One of Donna's secrets on up-sweeps is the use of lacquer. It does help. ANNABELLE HUFFORD wills all that she has learned from being mar- ried a few weeks to all her successors in school. MIRIAM HETZEL wills her home economics to Mary Wagner who will need it in her married life. George will appreciate this. BUD HANOVER wills his common sense to Jim Ekleberry. Let's don't have any remarks. MARILYN HANOVER wills her debating ability to Bob Snyder who usually gets the wrong end of the deal when he argues. BEVERLY ROBERTS wills her ability of keeping her B. F.'s straight to Kelly, who surely has her troubles. WINONA STEWART wills her umph to Nola Karcher who will need it to get through life. NORMAN WALTON wills his ability of shooting foul shots in the last minutes of a basketball game to anyone who can do as good as we think he does. CHARLES YOUNG wills his ability of shooting crap to Eugene Babcock who seems to lose everytime. CHARLES TOOLEY wills his grocery job when he gets to old to work to any- one that is very, very, very patient because it takes a person with that. GEORGE MARGRAF wills his wooing technique to Virgil Bogard. Pitch it Virgil. gm ppm We've come to an end of our high school days, We've finished our studies, games, and These were the happiest years we'Il ever And after a few years it will show. Some Some Some Some will marry their old school flames Some will be farmers of our dear land, Some, maybe, will play in a large band. Some want to travel the country o'er, plays, know will be lawyers and carry out their aims, will be nurses and care for the sick, beauticians that will really be slick. But whatever they do to the top they'll soar. We've been mean and made the teacher When we leave maybe they'll be glad. Our fellow school mates will miss us too To all of them we hate to say adieu. Nine of us have read ten of our Library Books. We try to decorate our room in keeping with the season and at present the decorations of spring drawings were made by the girls of our class. We enjoy our movies very much and correlate them with our studies. WL? FIRST ROW: J. Biller, C. Sprau, J. Bell, J, Schryer, L. Reed, D. Riedel, B. Burks, A. Karcher, A. Ohls, G. VonBlon. At the beginning of the school year the Fifth Grade which is taught by Mrs. Pancost had 34 pupils. Later in the year seven more pupils came. Three of them moved away again. At the present time there are four pupils who have perfect attendance. ln health we are studying about good posture. We are trying to eat three one hundred percent meals every day. Mrs. Sams is our health teacher. Each week, on Wednesday, we have a movie about some of our lessons and they have been very interesting. Most of them are about Geography but we have learned many interesting facts that we use in other classes. The Fifth and Sixth Grade girls have gym together each Wednesday afternoon. We've played many different games, but like volleyball best when in the gym. We had a Hallowe'en carnival this year. Most of use dressed up in costumes. We all had a good time at the carnival. We also had a Valentine and Christmas exchange. Written by: M. McDermott M. Everhart J. Grady N. Giles Jnwtfh. H FIRST ROW: G. Gregg, D. Shook, P. Grubb, A. Coffman, M. Weaver, R. McQuistion, L. Maxine Burks, Betty .lean Hayman and Philip Grubb have been neither absent nor tardy. Flu and scarlet fever spoiled any of our perfect attendance records, but many of us have missed only a few days of school. Our room helped with several programs. We had a part in the Carnival Program, the Operetta and the chapel program which was given on George Washington's birthday. A group of boys and girls with some Third Grade pupils gave The Minuet of colonial days. We've tried to be good workers by preparing our lessons well and by con- tributing to the March of Dimes, The Junior Red Cross and other worthwhile projects. The school year has been a pleasant one, but, of course we eagerly look forward to vacation. luhd FIRST ROW: J. Mekush, J. Biller, C. Holman, D, Hannam, F. Tschanen, K. Ekleberry, L. Bare, K. Ernestine Wilson was here for three weeks. ln March Lucille Walton left the group to attend school in Wharton. During the year ours has been an able and willing group. We have contributed willingly and heartily to the various nation- al drives, Junior Red Cross, Red Cross and March of Dimes. We have taken part in the various school programs. A group with some Fourth Graders gave a minuet for the Washington Birthday assembly. We took part in the grade operetta Tom Sawyer. Along with enjoying our Christmas gift exchange and Valentine box we have en- joyed our work. Many have brought in pictures, stories and articles that pertain to our school work. James Stever brought a fine shell collection, both snails and clams. Many brought sou- venirs from fathers, uncles, brothers, and cousins from various spots overseas. Altogether we have received much help from our books, conservations and movies. We hope to remain as a studious and coop- erative as we are now, and we will be a fine class all the way through school, Good luck to the class of l9'55. .Sammi Hhade. FIRST ROW: L. Bell, K. Joe Beaver from Ritman school attended our school for a few weeks. We had an epidemic of flu and of scarlet fever which was very bad for us and our attendance record. Mrs. Robert Walton was our substitute teacher while Mrs. Grandstaff was quaran- tined. She helped us celebrate at our Val- entine party. Other happy events of the year were the Carnival, when we played in the toy orchestra, the Christmas movie and gift exchange and the movie Charlie's Aunt. We gave money to the Junior Red Cross and the March of Dimes. We purchased twelve new library books and toy money with stamp tax money. Our enrollment at the beginning of the year was 28. Jean Ruffing and Lois Walton moved from our district. Carolyn Chance, Linda Wagner, and Bobby Hill joined our group and remained with us while Roberta Price, Evelyn Morris and Ronald Wilson joined us but moved away before the close of school. Each child received a penny for every IOO in spelling. As a birthday re- membrance each one received a large pencil. Because of a flu epidemic and lack of coal, school was dismissed three days earlier than anticipated for the holiday vacation. For this reason we did not have our gift exchange until January. A Valentine box caused much excitement in February. Rosalie Secoy and Norman Burkhart have perfect attendance records at this writing. fum Qlzivnfm, -Kumiodiand, -fnnlm, FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: Paul Walter, Charles Osborne, Carl Swerline, Chester Riedel, E.
