TOE AQOIMY AS® TOE ECSTASY Rob Adams returned as captain and led a flock of juniors to a second place finish. The biggest week in Sycamore Basketball his- tory was about to begin. Madeira and Indian Hill were going to visit the Aviators to decide the E.H.L. championship. The Mustangs of Madeira marched into Sycamore on a Tuesday night carried by six straight league victories. It ended up a heart breaking double overtime loss for the Aviators. How a team so bitterly beaten on a Tuesday, could come back and face another great team the following Friday will never be known. But when Indian Hill finally realized what had happened, it was to late to begin to try for a comeback. The sweet revenge that the Avia- tors had dreamed of for a long month was fi- nally satisfied. The Aves finished in a two way tie for second with Indian Hill in the E.H.L., much better than expected. After beating Talawanda in the first tournament game, the State runner up Middletown Middies ended it 98-57. But it was taken with less pain than usual, because Indian Hill will never forget the night of Feb- ruary 6, 1976. In the aftermath of Sycamore's 80-68 surprise killing of the Indian Hill Braves, Sycamore coach, Don Moormeier, sliced away at a victo- ry cake, presented by the Sycamore cheerleaders. In the corner of every player's mind was the hope for a championship. The entire season however, wasn't cake and icing for this team. They had to overcome big things, ond the task was a hard one. Led by just one senior, Rob Adams, the Avia- tors looked like just another Sycamore basket- ball team as Princeton ran off with a 77-55 victory. But the eyes of city began to grow as they saw the Aves reel of 5 straight wins. But the Aves forgot how to shoot a free throw at Lakota and lost by 2 points. It was a cool crisp night in early January. The Sycamore bus pulled up in Indian Hill High School parking lot. Four and one half hours later, the same bus left carrying a sad basket- ball team, swearing revenge on the HILL one month later. During the one month wait, the Aves had troubles. After surviving a scare by the Mariemont Warriors, Moeller recaptured the Old Oaken Bucket. Three wins and a loss to Loveland followed. The Sycomore ROWDIES keep the spirit olive behind the voice of Byron Freemon (in the Aviator hot) to leod the Aves to victory (upper left). Coaches Sutter ond Moor- meier contemplate the game with Indion Hill (lower left). 27
