' Our school board is interested in bettering the educational standards of children in this community. They often sacrifice much time and show deep devotion to duty in their efforts to render services to the school. The members are progressive and aware of the great contribu- tion that public education is to the nation. This past year their main job has been planning the new high school building. We are grateful to them for the educational opportunities they have provided the youth of the community. Zend First row: F. S. Aita, R. H. Anderson, N. F. Scherer. CLASS OF '56 As graduation draws nearer and nearer, the seniors begin to realize that their high school days are drawing to a close, and that they will soon pass through the doors of Sycohi for the final time. These past four years have been filled with many wonderful memories, memories that will be treasured forever by each senior. Throughout their four years at Sycohi, the members of this class have assumed leader- ship in all of the organizations and have been active in all sports. Some of the activities of the seniors have been Homecoming, the class play, Turn Back the Clock,', which, with much hard work, was made a success, the G.A.A. Dance, and the junior-Senior Prom. The National Honor Society, Student Council, Leaves and Syco-hi-Lites have been successfully managed by the seniors. After a memorable Class Day, the Seniors of 1956 donned their caps and gowns for their final role as high school students. Sycohils best wishes go with them as they leave to take their places in the world. 5 CHARLENE ALBRECHT Clam' A Cappella 3, 4g Band 1, 2, 3, 43 Chorus 1, 23 Class Committee 43 Class Play Committee 43 FHA 23 GAA 1, 2, 3, 43 Homecoming Committee 43 Music Contest 1, 2, 3, 43 Pep Band 23 Pep Club 1, 2, 3. The class of 1960 began their school days at the high school by being very active. The eighth grade boys engaged in football, bas- ketball, and track. The basketball team was especially successful, walking away with the championship from the invitational tourna- ment. The fans were led in cheers by the four eighth grade cheer- leaders. ' Then, in the spring, the class of 1960 attended two special func- tions. One was the Big Sister-Little Sister tea put on for the girls by the juniors where they were told about the various high school activities. The second was the annual eighth grade dance on May 8. The dance was especially attractive this year with decorations cen- tering around the theme, The Ivory Tower. And so as 1955-1956 came to a close, the eighth graders began look- ing forward to September when they will become a real part of the high school. .First row: W. Coan, F. Bigley, D. Carpenter, S. Touchdowns were made by Henigan, Johnston, Mandery, Kitchen, Brown, and Florent. Sycamore gained 285 yards to Morris's 22. The Spartans found little opposition on September 24 to their strong offensive attack and their stubborn defensive game at St. Thomas. The final score was Sycamore 41, St. Thomas 0. In their first conference game on September 30, the Spartans trailed in scoring for three quarters. The score at the end of the third period was Naperville 12, Sycamore 6. The final period Sycamore came to life and scored 21 points. Scorers were Frederick, Johnston, Dunmore, and Henigan. Defensively Fredrick, Henigan, Lindgren, Tucker, and Dunmore were outstanding. Final score, Sycamore 27, Naperville 12. On October 7, the Spartans spoiled Wego's homecoming by tromping them, 38-6. Those scoring were Henigan, Florent, Fredrick, and Johnston. Those playing exceptionally on defense were Lindgren, Fredrick, Holland, Tucker, Troutman, Dunmore, Johnston and Fred Sibley. After 21 years of not winning a game from Wheaton, the Spartans gained revenge, but good, by beating them 26-0 on October 14. Both teams had a disadvantage, by the steady drizzle throughout the game. The Tigers gave the Spartans a good game though. Bob Lindgren led the defensive with 12 tackles. Offensively Johnston, Fredrick, and Florent did the scoring. The 'Spartans spoiled another homecoming on October 21, by whipping Batavia, 39-O. The team again gave their usual fine performance. Offensively Sycamore gained 348 yards. Defensively they yielded only 101 yards. On October 28, Sycamore's homecoming, Sycamore got back at Dundee for the 6-0 loss that Dundee gave them last year in the championship game by beating them 34-6. Sycamore got off to a fast start and, at the end of the first quarter, led 14-O. At half- time the score stood 21-0. Dundee got their only touchdown on a quarterback sneak from the one-yard line. Sycamore again showed its strength by crushing Geneva, 32-O, on November 4. While the great Spartan offense stepped off 272 yards, the stubborn Spartan defense yielded only 91 yards. The Spartans ended the 1955 season on November 10, with a 55-6 triumph over St. Charles. Johnston led in scoring with 19 points. Henigan had 13. The Spartans gained 435 yards to St. Charles's 98 yards. This was the final game of a high school season for seventeen seniors. R. SALLY DAVIS, who has certainly enjoyed her joy rides on the Clare bus, leaves for a tour of the United States on a Greyhound. Just like riding on a feathered pillow, huh, Sally? JOHN DENBY leaves wondering what he'll do with all his spare time, now that he hasn't any detentions to do. DAVID DRENCKPOHL, better known as D.W.D., leaves his big words and philosophy to untired-tongue, Joe Trapp. Say, what's this I hear about Route 64-out the Annie Glid- den way-being worn out?
