Hunk James lirny, The F wst F llght On September second nineteen thrrtv a numerous group of rdeal students ap proached the hangar where the good ship Education was being tuned up for an extended trip to the beautrful land Su preme Knowledge After many strenu ous hours of hard labor we ucceedeo rn obtaining Mr J H Carlson as our corn mander ln chief, Mr F Carlson as the experienced assrstant commander, 1ne e1 ficrent Mr D Boies as mecharnc and prlot and our truthful and faithful navrgatrrx Miss Alrce Rernhart The day had at last arrived! The pilot was found seated at the controls of the plane, ready to take off. Miss Reinhart rushed to her cabin with a compass clutched firmly in her hand. and seated herself in a high-backed mahogany chair. especially built for the tedious voyage. The mechanic, with a few turns of the b- propeller had our motor roaring like d1s tant thunder We rose from the earth as gracefully as the American Eagle After strugglrng with the elements we attained our altltude and speed for the first year in high Flying at a very raprd pace for about tvro months with nothing to mar our happiness but sleepless nrghts and hard work, we decided to have our first party of the year In the balmy breezes of a cloudless sky on the twenty fifth of October we had a Freshman par ty rn the spacious reception room of our Made rn America plane We had a very jolly time with the flyers Evangelines who stopped with us at a small town called Gymnasium where we spent an evening. On Nowember tvsenty-second we stop- ped at Frost Fair' and saw the noted Maretta Foster and John Ovitz being crow ned Queen and King of the flyers. Page Sixteen

Some had to struggle very hard to pull through . We began to wonder how far we still had to go to get to our destination' every- one was curious to get there but the land marks by which we were to recognize it hadnt appeared on the horizon. Our spirits began to lag and it was only by using our greatest will-power aided by b- Miss Relnhart that we were kept from turning back No unusual events seemed to be in store for us Hovsevel on June first and second we come in ccntact with anothei terrible storm which caused much trouble but we succeeded in getting through it Although we had accomplished much that year this trouble made us more discour aged and tned We were veiy glad when we saw ahead of us that which we sup posed was our destination We landed and stretched oui wealy bones glad to have ended the long trip However on inquiry we found that this was only the land of Summer Vacation and not the land that we were headed for but we decided to stay there and rest so that we might fit ourselves for the next and somewhat harder days of our long journey to the land of Supreme Knowledge which now seemed farther away than ever.
