The pilot was found seated at the controls of the plane, ready to take off. Miss Reinhart rushed to her cabin with a compass clutched firmly in her hand. and seated herself in a high-backed mahogany chair. especially built for the tedious voyage. The mechanic, with a few turns of the b- propeller had our motor roaring like d1s tant thunder We rose from the earth as gracefully as the American Eagle After strugglrng with the elements we attained our altltude and speed for the first year in high Flying at a very raprd pace for about tvro months with nothing to mar our happiness but sleepless nrghts and hard work, we decided to have our first party of the year In the balmy breezes of a cloudless sky on the twenty fifth of October we had a Freshman par ty rn the spacious reception room of our Made rn America plane We had a very jolly time with the flyers Evangelines who stopped with us at a small town called Gymnasium where we spent an evening. On Nowember tvsenty-second we stop- ped at Frost Fair' and saw the noted Maretta Foster and John Ovitz being crow ned Queen and King of the flyers. Some had to struggle very hard to pull through . We began to wonder how far we still had to go to get to our destination' every- one was curious to get there but the land marks by which we were to recognize it hadnt appeared on the horizon. Our spirits began to lag and it was only by using our greatest will-power aided by b- Miss Relnhart that we were kept from turning back No unusual events seemed to be in store for us Hovsevel on June first and second we come in ccntact with anothei terrible storm which caused much trouble but we succeeded in getting through it Although we had accomplished much that year this trouble made us more discour aged and tned We were veiy glad when we saw ahead of us that which we sup posed was our destination We landed and stretched oui wealy bones glad to have ended the long trip However on inquiry we found that this was only the land of Summer Vacation and not the land that we were headed for but we decided to stay there and rest so that we might fit ourselves for the next and somewhat harder days of our long journey to the land of Supreme Knowledge which now seemed farther away than ever. THE ORACLE '5P Senior Class H lstory Here we are at the ground training school one hundred and twenty five strong We are about to start to acquire information through experience on that large flying field of knowledge We stand in mottled array verdant and eagerly am b1t10l1S Feeling the typical greenhorn we file into the large hangar where we are to obtain lnformation from the professors the seniors Staring around us we listen open mouthed to the instructions for the first day However this feeling wears off after the first few days and we acquire that characteristic termed freshness We were divided into groups and chose as group leaders Ladimir Moudry William Warren and Marion Boyle These groups formed clubs and called themselves Evan geline Adelphian Science Sycohi Glee Orchestra and G A A Miss Reinhart was our skilled aviatrix and through ner valuable services we hoped to become full fledged pilots After a month of drudgery on the eventful n1gnt of Halloween in the form of Ghosts Witches Gypsies old came together in the main hangar to cele brate our success thus far Due to the aid of our leader and the cooperation of those students aspiring to try their wings we rapidly covered the necessary instruc tions and after nearly a year of hard work trlals downfalls and back slides seasoned with many good times we passed oui examinations and received our cei tfficates needed in continuing our instruc tions We felt that we had acquired not only much valuable knowledge but also a beloved spu'1t of friendship which we hope wfll last throughout the coming years We eagerly looked forward to the coming year and to our Hl'St flight off the ground On September 4 1928 our band again assembled in front of the dear old hangar viewing the new ships drawn up ready for filght We grouped ourselves again into our old classes and chose as head pilots Max Mabel Junior Quinn Juanita Brunke and Anna OBrien We dld not stand in green looking curious and timid groups waiting for someone to come and tell us 5- where to go and what to do but as onc united band performed the tasks we knew were expected of us This year we were instructed by Miss Hulbert a very effic 1ent and greatly admired aviatrix ur first air flight was a source of both fear and enJoyment It both fascinated and awed us We were all glad to set foot on terra flrma but were desirous of going up again Our first instructions dealt Wlth landing in different fields The most successful pilots who landed IH the ath letlc field were Max Mabel Arthur Pier son Brune Dunmore Russell Henigan Donald Molander Lester Harris and Ladi mir Moudry During the hollday season we gave a delightful party to our fellow pilots both those going on ahead of us the envied Juniors and Seniors and those working diligently in the fields from which we had recently graduated the Freshmen Also many of those who were now travelling along lifes paths as accomplished flyers were invited All had a very enjoyable quaintances and gaining new friencs During thls year we had a few crashes and accidents and so our number was lessened a little but most of us were suc cessful ln our solo flights and grew more and more confident and eager to become licensed pilots Om' third year was now beglnnmg and we were extremely lucky in again secur ing as our guide Miss Hulbert Th1s year we chose as leader pilots Donald Molan der William Warren and Donald Holmes This year our flight for knowledge was based mainly on barnstormmg and wing walking We were now more accustomed to our ships and felt that we knew the feel of the ship With Miss Hulbert at the controls we started on our first barn storming trip Before starting however we received our aviator Jackets with SYCAMORE emblazoned across the front of them just as the names of towns are emblazoned on theu' respective avrports On this trip we astonished 01.11 earth audience with wing walking and stunt V Page Ezgh I3 tu 0 O O Y - . , ' ! ! ! i Y -.
