Our good ship, Swoyerville High, has finally reached its destination-the Port of Gradu- ation. We stand on deck gazing with uncertainty at the dark, turbulent Sea of Life which looms ahead. Before we disembark and set off in in- dividual crafts, let us once more look behind at our, high school years which have prepared us for life's great voyage. Remember the first time our crew assembled in September, 1954? We tried to make a promin- ent appearance, but our meek looks and tense laughter belied our confidence. Our Admiral, Mr. Shockloss, welcomed us aboard, and then as- signed us to separate tours of duty at the Cahalan Building and the High School. The voyage had begun! We rapidly skimmed the sea as Freshmen, meeting new friends and discovering new hori- zons. ln presenting our outstanding Spring Re- view, we learned what work and cooperation could achieve. Amply rewarded by our excur- sion to Harrisburg and our growing feelingiof prominence, we bade farewell to our freshman year. ' A ' Now So homoresf our confident crew wasre- P f T united -to be one year closer to its goal. It found us more dexterous -in school work and anxious to make a good impression among the upperclass- men, so we were off in a whirl of activities. The Sophomores miss a game? or a dance? Never! Here was our chance to join the Key Club or the Y-Teens. While the boys gave their all on the gridiron and the basketball court, our liveliest girls, as cheerleaders, cheered them on. An ex- hausting but unforgettable day at Ricketts' Glen ended an equally unforgettable year. The Junior crew was many things, but never dull! Gay, carefree, and troublesome, we now had to learn responsibility and unity. Class of- ficers chosen to guide us over the storms of the coming year were: President, Charles Sieminski, Vice President, Carl Kubek, Secretary, Dolores Aritz, Treasurer, Margaret Reggie. The early part of the year was devoted to sports and studies, but with our Junior-Senior Banquet, one of the social highlights of the year, the excitement be- gan. Time had now come to choose class rings and choose them we did-four, or was it five different kinds? After due consideration, how- ever, we narrowed our choices to two4round and square. Perhaps we weren't unified, but we were satisfied! With the Junior-Senior Prom, a night to remember, we took leave of another hectic, happy year, with the realization that we would return in the fall as Seniors. ,, ,, , mmflawmffwfwaav , l iwin z f, wmu,.,.f-7 , - ,n.l4 .ll1a 1 my CLASS HISTORY AT lasT, filled wiTh anTicipaTion, we mapped ouT The course ThaT would lead us Through The Senior year To The PorT of G-raduaTion. Now we were in command! So, wiTh The knowledge and experiences we had gained in The previous years, we were ready To weaTher anyThing. We selecTed The following officers in our Senior year: Presi- denT, Charles Sieminski, Vice Presidenf, John DomanT, SecreTary, MargareT Reggie, Treasurer, Mary Ann Suda. IT was our duTy To Take charge of The TaTTler, The Key Club and The Y-Teens. We TasTed defeaf when our foofball Team sailed inTo rough seas, and we knew The joy of vicTory when our Sailors copped The NorTh League baskeTball Tifle and enfered The playoffs. Our TalenT and consTanT humor came To lighT as we presenTed our successful minsfrel and play. Could any audi- ence have enioyed waTching Them as much as we enjoyed puTTing Them on? The Senior crew dis- played Their go-go-go salesmanship abilify in earning money for The yearbook, buT were less enThusiasTic abouT bringing in The reTurns. ln Ocfober we made a shorT Trip To Dorrance Colliery where we experienced an exciTing and advenTurous day down in The depThs of The mines. The following monTh, under The super- vision of our class advisors, Miss Angeline Cac- ciaTore and Mrs. MargareT Puhak, we Toured Harrisburg, our sTaTe capiTal, and GeTTysburg. While in Harrisburg, we had The privilege of meeTing Governor Leader. The daTe for The banqueT was approaching- or was iT? AfTer weeks of uncerTainTy iT Turned ouT To be a gala affair. From Then on our ship sped wiTh The wind-The New York Trip, Class nighT and Graduafion are buT glowing memories. These and many oTher incidenTs made our final year a glorious one and now The dream ThaT had been cherished in our hearTs was To become a living realiTy, all The advenfures and experi- ences we had shared as a class were coming To an end only To remain forever in our minds as a memory of The wonderful years we've known aT Swoyerville High School. Time now To look ahead-Class of l958. Every day of our high school voyage-our Teachers, classmafes and friends have prepared us To sail The greaT Sea of Life, knowing ThaT now we musT go info The world as individuals and en- deavor To obfain success and To face The dawn of a brighf new day on our own. A ray of sun- lighT sparkles on Life's cloudy waTers-We are NOT Finished, buT JusT Begun, in a world of advenTure ThaT will have iTs sTrifes and iTs Trials buT if we follow This ray of hope and TrusT in God, we shall have a safe voyage. Swoyerville High School has always been proud of its superior football teams, but this year of 1957-58, our Sailors ran into rough weather and stormy seas in their exploits on the football gridiron. However, we are proud of all the boys who made up the team, especially Charlie Sieminski who made the Wyoming Valley All-Star team. This year we have won no conference or divisional trophies but we did fight to up- hold our school colors. We are deeply in- debted to them and our coach, Mr. John YonKondy, for all the time and effort that they have expended. 74 , F 1 so Fill 5? 7 SCOQES Svvoyervrlle Coal Twp W Scranton Hazleton Hanover Larksvllle Kingston Old Forge ..,, Plains o,oo.,,,.
