It seems as though it was only yesterday that we entered the portals of Swoyerville High School as freshmen. This June, as we Ieave our dear Alma Mater, knowing that unothing now is left but the majestic memory, we will wish for an opportunity to he ahle to relive these happy years. In this our 1955 SAILORS' LOG we have endeavored to preserve the memory of these yesterdays which look for- ward with a smile. Now we must face the world on our own and think for ourselves without the direction and guidance of our teachers and administrators. Tomorrow it is on to . . . Through our associations with Mr. Shendock, who has become our special friend, we have learned many things not found in hooks. ln his role as teacher, faculty manager, athletic manager and coach, he has unassumingly taught generosity, dedication, and selflessness to those he served. With love and deep esteem, we, the class of 1955, dedicate this SAILORS' LOG to one who . . . made youth younger and taught life to livef' -YOUNG Senior Class at Harrisburg 246004 Near the shores of Susquehanna Stands our high school fairg Set against the highest mountain Soaring in the air. Wwww As we now reminisce through our high school days we recall many happy, joyous and sometimes troubled experiences-experiences that have brought us closer together, not only as a class, but as friends and young adults, searching for a path to lead us in our lives after graduation. Graduation, the word that seemed so far off in a distance. The following are some of our beloved and treasured memories that will linger in our hearts in the years to come. September, 1951, we entered as freshmen, young, eager and willing to learn. We were divided into two groups: academic students at the Cahalan Building and com- mercial students at the High School. At the High School as we looked about us we saw the upperclassmen so sure and so accustomed to the spirited surroundings. Many of us wondered if we could ever be accepted. But from the first, things looked swell! There were dances conducted at the high school and the pleasant trips from the Cahalan Building for gym, library science or an occasional chapel meeting were always a treat. The athletically-minded boys were given their first opportunity to engage in the many sports which our school offers. A few of us were chosen to represent our class on the Student Council and THE TATTLERQ and who can forget the two most colorful and exciting events as freshmen, the Valentine's Dance in February and the annual Freshman Prom in June. Our first year of high school came to an end with anxious eyes awaiting next year. Sophomoresl and a year higher. We all were together at the high school and it had a special meaning to us. To some of the girls it meant being chosen cheerleader or majorette, while the boys worked hard to gain another favorable year in sports. Still others took part in presenting our chapel programs and participating in school activities. Slowly we were reaching our peak. As Juniors we began to understand a little better about class cooperation. We were upperclassmen now. Our year began with the election of class officers: President, John Bebeyg Vice President, Frank Matellog Secretary, Mary Ann Charnetskig Treasurer, Norman Slusher. The Y-Teens and Key Club were introduced to us this year and we all remembered the junior-Senior Banquet and Prom given by the seniors. Choosing our class rings reminded us of our next and final year of high school. We began our Senior year with high hearts and the knowledge that this was our last year together as a class. The activities soon got under way. Football games, dances, and trips opened with all its expectations. Our Harrisburg, Gettysburg, and New York City trips proved adventurous and very educational. The Minstrel, under the supervision of Mr. Shendock, proved a success. The play, lt's a Great Lifef' directed by Mr. Wallace, received a hardy applause. Soon we realized that the year was slowly coming to a close and found ourselves hosts at the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Now Class Night and Graduation are upon us. The many friends we have met will go their own separate ways, but we can always look back at the wonderful experiences we have enjoyed. The knowledge gained not only from books, but with these friends will always remain in our hearts. Let us remember, however, these wonderful years were possible through the help of God and the understanding and patience of our parents and teachers. With this help still to guide us, we, the Class of '55, will succeed. By BARBARA ANN MACK I HELEN ANTONITUS Helen Commercial Sweet and charming is this girl, With dancing feet always ready to whirl. Faem THE TRAIL'S END By Rosemary Hlavac At last we've come to the trail's end, Now we must part, each and every one a friend. Some go North, some go South, perhaps East or West Wherever we go, we must face a test. What lies ahead? Before long we shall see This path leads to our future, whatever it may be. Let us start our journey with a smile and not a sigh, Comforted inside by memories of Swoyerville High. Now the dreams of youth shall come true, Alone on this new path, what shall we do? Remember our school, Swoyerville so dear, And all we have learned year by year. To work, to love, to get along, To always do right, to never do wrong, To persevere, to help, to learn each day Something that will widen the narrow way. Memories never change, they remain the same, A Senior dance, a football game. The high school minstrel, our senior play, New York! How well we remember that day! At last we're on our way, To face the dawn of a bright new day. Success and best wishes begin to arrive, They,re all for the CLASS OF '55 i-7 X, 77, 27' ,Irv 7 f f f 1 dl. f , Z f l if 'L , ii: ,npr 'ff ' f ,QE Y 1 fs? X12 - 1 14 -.F 5 , I-,f,,..
