Dur- ing the course of the year many crises develop that must be handled by all levels of adminis- trative staff. It is a job that has rewards but also has negative aspects because not all conflicts can be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. What must be remembered is that all of our staff works for the improvement of SCHS students. Programs getting special attention this year include the Gifted and Talented Language Arts and a program to promote drug-free schools. Our greenhouse continues to provide school and community interest, as well as a unique learn- ing experience. Chester Meisberger Superintendent John Thomas Principal Teachers celebrate their profession by nominating one of their fellows as a candidate for Teacher of the Year. This year our candidate for Teacher of the Year was Dale Simon, Agriculture teacher and Future Farmers of America sponsor. Student Council sponsors the Homecoming, along with the Future Homemakers of America. Student Council is also in charge of Candy Grams, Halloween Waiter Waitress Day, and Balloon Day. Members of Student Council are chosen to attend the Student Council State Convention, where they learn ways to motivate their school toward better government, and they also pick up ways of encouraging school spirit. Student Council participated in Black Tuesday. Our program at school consisted of 42 S.A.D.D. and Student Council members. One of these members “died” every seven minutes to show the rate of people killed due to drinking and driving. When it was time for a student to “die,” he or she wore black and could not talk to anyone the rest of the day. Congratulations, Student Council, on a job well done! Through guest speakers, schoolwide meetings, and thought provoking programs, we hope that some have realized the seri- ousness of alcohol and drug related problems. Although tangible evidence may not be present, everyone is affect- ed. We hope that our influence was an element in making this a spectacular year at SCHS, and that it will guide the class of ‘88 as its future unfolds. The family is John Maxwell, the fa- ther; Janet Max- well, the mother; the two daughters, Connie and Betty Lou; the son, Wil- bur, and his best friend Hercules Nelson.
