We had many outstanding members. Michelle Green and Tony Spoores represented us at All-State Choir; Lora Scranton scored a one at the state contest. Several others were selected to sing at the school Christ- mas and Easter programs. We con- gratulate these students and thank Miss Saylor for a good year. Below center: A beauty routine is so important! “RUMBO” CAST This tale of wimp turned warrior, one of the most successful productions of the past few years, cast Mark Facemire in the lead role with Carol Tilley as his leading lady. Tony Spoores, Lora Scranton, and Scott Eve portrayed actors whose biggest fans were themselves. Joy Cutter, a war-crazed general, picked spineless Jim Hill as her new recruit. Connie Furnish and Janna Stultz were young women playing the field. The Dupree family was convincingly portrayed by Alice Kappes, Richard Parks, Erin Redmon, and Annetta Piepmeier. Former Miss U.S.A. contestants were Jennifer Weales, Gina Gregory, Ginger Smith, and Kim Thurman. Tina Richards created quite a performance in her characterization of Cobra. Serving as double agents were Alan Peters, Jay Klein, Susie Davis, Jennifer Leap, and Stacy Hocker. The directors were Mr. Hansel and Mrs. Cole. 10 “I don't believe we've been introduced!” exclaims Albert Neval, alias Mark racemi re. ’’What am I doing here.7 n SEVENTH GRADE BAND This year the junior high bands have shown talent and enthusiasm in all they have done! Council members also visit the Swiss Villa Nursing Home on Halloween to show off their costumes and visit with the residents. The picture above shows the bizarre as- sembly before they left the school to visit the nursing home residents. At right: Mrs. Seaver listens as the meeting is being conducted. The Switzerland County Student Council works to help make every year the best possible. This year students council participated in numerous activities. In early fall one member and the president and vice president and sponsor attended the Indiana Student Council State Convention at East Noble High School. Christmas candygrams were sold and delivered to brighten the school day. The school lobby was decorated for the Christmas season as well. Homecoming, usually jointly sponsored with the FHA, was held in February. The SCHS Varsity Cheerleaders from 1969 to 1977 were honored as well as the crowning of homecoming queen. Other events were Staff Appreciation Day, Spirit Week, and the debate the council sponsored between the prosecuting attorney candidates. Halloween Waiter Waitress Day is a favorite activity with members, students, and teachers. It has become a tradition for the council members to dress in their “finest and to earn tips from the “customers in the cafeteria by carrying their trays and offering services. During Mrs. Abbot’s maternity leave the officers had to continue in her absence. They were very successful in their production of the Hospitality Room during Homecoming, which they sponsored jointly with Student Council. They crowned the F.H.A. Honey at the Homecoming dance. Business editors, Laura Brown and Annette Gray, did an outstanding Job keeping books and keeping the staff and Mrs. H. straight on business matters regarding advertisements, fund raisers, pictures, and more. Tammy McClure, Stacy Hocker, and Tracy Hewitt ran countless errands. Tracy Miller and Jennifer Weales pro- vided the backbone of the sports' section. Every- one worked on just about every section at one time or another. The most memorable times seem to be when we were all busy on something and an embarassing or emotional scene occurred, whether staff or sponsor was involved. We ll nev- er forget Mark’s picture on the bulletin board or hearing about George Strait. We picked the theme, Emotions, from what was happening in our own lives. Below, right: Raquel and Laura take notes on the review. Barbara Angie Row 1: Monica Detraz, Mark Facemire, Ginger Jewell, Tracy Miller, Angie Alford, Emily Meeks. Exerpt from Editor’s Comments in the Senior issue in May. “ ... with the end of the year comes the end of this volume of the Oracle and a long year of sometimes frustration and hard work. Things aren't always bad, however. Working with a staff of varying numbers of people who dedicated parts of their own free time (there was no journalism class this year), the Oracle came out a record number of about 10 or 11 times—sorry, but I lost count. Not only that, but circulation more than doubled from last year, and this helped to prove that you don’t need a glossy newspaper with pages of advertise- ments for people to buy it. The puzzles were well received, and by the end of the year there were always 10 or 20 people clamoring for the chance to win a dollar. The April Fool of the Year contest was well received, as were the Valentine’s ads. Thanks to all who helped support the Oracle by buying it faithfully. Thank you to the teachers who let us come in and sell the paper during class and who waiting patiently while we used the copier. Thanks to the superintendent's office who gave us the paper we used. Thanks to Mr. Thomas for letting us print what we did. Thanks to Mrs. Weaver who put up with a cluttered and busy office the whole year, and a big thanks to the staff—you know who you are. It has become a new tradition for our junior high. Our science classes studied dinasaurs and all sorts of great things, and we did projects and models. Mrs. Sandidge and her math classes made a display. There were booths, displays, and games of chance. We ate goodies and went to the talent show. Finally we were recognized for our accomplishments. The band played; the choir sang. We received awards. What a great festival! A Prince and Princess were crowned. Our basketball teams and cheerleaders were introduced.
