His life evolved around his family, his stu- dents, and matters pertaining to his posi- tion in the real estate business. Endeavor- ing to help others seem to erase any time for himself. The corridors will echo his foot-steps, the empty chair will confront us, but the en- dearing memories will remind us that we are richer for having known this one who has gone before us. By Martha Cole KEEPERS OF THE TORCH 69 ADMINISTRATION Chester Meisberger Superintendent John Thomas Principal The Switzerland County High School Ad- ministrative Staff is an essential part of the lives of the teachers and students in our school. They are here to help better the students' education and to help better the school. Since we have had a change in principals, there has been a change of rules; therefore, there have been good results. The faculty has had a great influ- ence on many students. There have been many more students at- tending consistently than there had been in the past few years. We thank the ad- ministration and the faculty for doing everything possible for all of the students. The Junior High Fall Festival was, for the second year, a hit. The Spring Open House was a very busy night. The science fair and the art department held its annu- al art show while Drama Club performed Annie. Martha Cole's life and career as an educator in Switzerland County, Indiana, has become leg- endary. Mrs. Cole, during the past forty-eight years, has taught more students the basics in reading, writing and arithmetic than any other single teacher who has served in the Switzer- land County school system. She is the one teacher who sees the world through the stu- dents' eyes and experiences her reality from the students' points of view. Mrs. Martha Cole was a semifinalist in the state- wide competition for the 1986 Indiana Teacher of the Year. There were more than 200 teachers nominated for the honor, and Mrs. Cole was among the top seven. In southeastern Indiana the name Martha Cole has become synonymous with education — reading, writing, and arithmetic. 74 Tell me the latest and I'll spare you!' Yuck!!!! Basics, Santa, basics! YOUR HOMETOWN NEWS SOURCE SINCE 1816 156 FARMERS FAIR AMY AND TROY Pacesetter 1986 . . . passes the torch onward. Stacy Hooker's job is to mail student film for developing. The entire staff assembled for a group picture during a very hectic picture day at SCHS. 158 Our editor. Where did I file my pictures Troy and Leanne do layouts. The 1986 Pacesetter staff has had a tempestuous year. Changes in room location, rules, interpersonal relationships, staff, and clubs made creating this yearbook a challenge. Much preparation was done to cre- ate a successful book. During June of 1985, Kathy Peters attended Year- book Camp at Georgetown College in Kentucky. Kathy became the edi- tor of the book and steered the group to better practices and management. Assisting the editor was Stacy Hocke. Darin Gullion managed the business and advertis- ing with great effectiveness. The Senior Section was created by a tri- umvirate consisting of Amy Slack, Noeline Galang, and Barbara Firth. Faculty editor was Lisa Laisure. I'm really working. Kathy knows.' Don't give my any grief! Organizations were handled by Paige Prosser. The Sports Editor, Leanne Park, was assisted by Mike Facemire and Troy Coker. Mike and Troy also were student photographers. The large Underclassmen Section was handled by Joi Winchester and Tina Richards. Special thanks to go Ginger Jewell for her assistance second semester. 159 Another exciting year at SCHS has passed. This book. Passing the Torch, has captured the memories and laughter forever in print. These memories are special to the sen- iors because it is their last year of high school—the end of one life and the beginning of another. It is special for the rest of us because there will never be another one like it. Congratulations, Seniors, and see the rest of you next year. 160
