1 i I ... Dream About Tomorrow. Volume I This book is dedicated to the memory of H. William Hall, Switzerland County School Corporation's Superintendent from 1974-1979. The decisions made by Mr. Hall have influ- enced our lives and enriched our futures. SWITZERLAND COUNTY JR. - SR. HIGH SCHOOL VEVAY, INDIANA S.C.H.S. IN RETROSPECT The year is over now, and a lot of events have taken place; new friends were made and familiar faces were recognized. In this annual you now hold in your hand, we feel we have captured the most cherished and memo- rable moments of the past year. We've rolled all the laughter, tears, and sense of accomplishment together, in hopes that you can relive some of those moments. So just sit back and enjoy yourself as you REMEMBER YESTER- DAY, AND DREAM ABOUT TOMORROW!!! 2 Table of Contents Introduction Seniors Sr. High Activities High School Sports Jr. High Activities Faculty Juniors Sophomores Freshmen Eighth Grade Seventh Grade Advertisements 4 r fi •' v 6 SENIORS REPRESENT S.C.H.S. The 1979-1980 Pumpkin Show Queen Candidate was Ladonna Poling. Ladonna was chosen by the senior class to represent S.C.H.S. She was one of the many contestants in the contest. The Pumpkin Show is an annual event held at Versailles, Indiana. It is a fall harvest celebration and part of this celebration includes the Queen Contest on Saturday morning and a parade in the afternoon. Aurora Farmer's Fair Queen Volina Stultz The 1979-1980 Aurora Farmer's Fair Queen and King Candidates were Volina Stultz and Randy Al- len. They were chosen by S.C.H.S. seniors to compete with other senior contestants from surrounding schools. The Farmer's Fair is a tradition in Aurora and the local region. Part of the fair includes a senior boy and girl from each local high school competing to become King and Queen of the fair. 10 1980 HOMECOMING February 22, 1980, all was quiet as the tension grew in the high school gym between games of the S.C.H.S. Pacers versus the Shawe Hilltoppers. Girls were nervously awaiting the an- nouncement of this year's Homecom- ing Queen and her court. The moment came, and so did tears of joy as Greta Smith became 2nd runner up, Volina Stultz 1st runner up, and Janet Hall the 1980 Homecoming Queen. Janet was then crowned by last year's queen, Tammy Fields, and each lucky girl re- ceived a bundle of roses. The eleven girls and their escorts were as follows: Janet Hall and Lonnie Furnish; Volina Stultz and Bill Sey- mour; Greta Smith and Rick Browning; Kelli Gayle and Alan Walcott; Ladonna Poling and Barry O'Neal; Vicky Bowl- ing and Glenn Bovard; Sheila Darling and Leon Walker; Jackie Sullivan and Bob McFarland; Amy Regensburger and John Garland; Tina Wagner and Tommy Bovard; Carol Slack and Paul Curlin. Janet and Lonnie share a tender moment as she walks up to receive her crown. Janet steps forward to re- ceive her crown. li SENIOR CLASS PRESENTS REST ASSURED Row 1: G. Mathews, L. Johnson, G. It was good to finally get away from the Indiana cold and into the great Florida Sunshine. The first day was spent on the beach. Then we went to Busch Gardens, Sea World, Disjiey World, Wet and Wild and also took in some movies, disco dancing, and wax museums. u The Florida Sunshine The time flew by. Many people were trying to soak up as much sun- shine as possible and just enjoying themselves. We met a lot of new people from all over the country and some from our own state; many new friendships were made. We threw birthday parties and did a lot of celebrating. is SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS CLASS SONG 'Free Bird CLASS MOTTO Remember yesterday, dream about tomorrow, . . . but live today. We've had trouble passing Government but not because we're crass. We play leap frog on the stair steps and tackle in the snow. And we'd rather drink good cold Dew than homemade chocolate cocoa. When it comes to being peppy , we've got the Spirit Stick . The thought of ever losing it is nothing less than lunatic. Our inspiration is Steve Martin , our goal is Rock and Roll ! When it comes to deep romances, our love has taken its toll. We've given birth to many phrases than may be foreign to your ear. Like you got snowed! , let's get nuts! , and the Perfect Sleeper is near . We know a lot of secrets we can't be paid to tell. But when it comes to burn time we're always ready to yell! I'll take this time to warn you, we've only just begun. vou ain't seen nothin' yet 'cause there's lots more yet to come! ho knows how far we'll go from here? Time will take its course. Ve'll never let it be said that with us was not the force , he future holds a lot for us and to S.C.H.S. a long awaited good-bye. dut before we leave, you'll be convinced that the great class of 80 CAN NEVER DIE!!!!!!!!!!!! 17 Corina Baatz Oneva Beach Bruce Bennett Ernest Bovard Glenn Bovard Tommy Bovard Vicky Bowling Glenda Brady 18 19 Dianna Chase Lawrence Chase Regina Cleeter Stephen Colen Brenda Cope Dennis Courter Joe Covington Jonathan Coy Patricia Curl Paul Curlin Sheila Darling Angela Driver Todd Deaton Lonnie Furnish Becky Garland John Garland 20 Regina Hite Susan Holder Stephen Hysell Dennis Jaynes Kelli Gayle Peggy Hart Toni Gridley Teresa Haney Eddie Haskell Dan Hehe Janet Hall Timothy Hensley Tammy Jester Timothy Jewell Lake Johnson Donna Keith Michelle Keith Danny Mangold Gerri Mathews Terry Mathews Tammy McClellan Linda McDole Bob McFarland Georgia Morris Barry O'Neal Barbara Otter Darlene Otter Dale Patterson Lorrie Pavy Ladonna Poling Mark Powers Tim Ralston Mike Raisor Tye Ray Amy Regensburger Marie Robbins Christman 23 24 Yvonna Shuler Carol Slack Greta Smith Kevin Smith Sandy Stewart Volina Stultz Jacqueline Sullivan Donna Thomas Stephanie Thomas Susan Thomas Lynnette Tolliver Daniel Turner Maria Varble Tina Wagner Alan Walcott Lonnie Walcott 2S Phillip Wolfe Lisa Works Ruth Belew Thomas Bailey Leon Walker Michael Walls Susan Williams Barry Wilson Tony Bailey Steven Keith Jeffrey Smith Dennis Taylor Superlatives from the Class of “80 Mr. and Miss Senior Best Personality mmm 111 n t n • ■  —• John Garland and Amy Regensburger Most Likely to Succeed John Chambers and Ladonna Poling Wittiest Couple Todd Deaton and Samantha Brammer Terry Mathews and Darlene Otter Most Bashful The Flirt of the Senior Class Dale Patterson Class Clowns Jim Carr and Corina Baatz Most Studious Dennis Jaynes and Regina Cleeter Tim Hensley and Tammy Jester 28 Most Talented Paul Curlin and Greta Smith Most Happy-Go-Lucky Bill Seymour and Sheila Darling Most School Spirit Most Athletic Randy Allen and Janet Hall Tim Ralston and Volina Stultz 29 MEMORIES Like Terry and Gerri Mathews Carol Slack Donna Thomas Steve Hysell Lorrie Pavy YoYo Shuler r. A toast to the Seniors. Senior Toga Party On December 15, 1979, the Seniors got together at Yo-Yo Schuler's house to celebrate the leaving of the mid-year graduates and to throw one of the wildest parties that has ever existed. It was a Toga party, an idea adopted from the popular movie, ANIMAL HOUSE. Everyone arrived in their “toga sheets, but as the evening went on, the pictures re- veal that everyone lost them. It was truly a wild af- fair. The Seniors really know how to party! The bathroom was a popular meeting place. What went wrong, Doug? Yo-Yo maintains the party. Vick, where are your eyes? 32 I have hopes, dreams, and fears. There were times I was angry, and these schoolmates cheered me. This is the last time we'll be together as a class . . . Do I look all right? 34 Tomorrow has so many places 36 That I've yet to see This class of 1980 has a lot to offer society. There will be many suc- cessful people coming from this class. We have always been a close class. Everyone was wild and crazy, but after graduation was over, everyone was even closer. Yet the time has finally come for us to realize that some of us will never see each other again. We'll look back on this day with cherished remembrance. Remember Georgia's song? What about Amy's speech? Wasn't that great? Didn't it seem like a long way across that stage to shake hands with Mr. Daugherty and receive that precious diploma? All the family were there and people kept taking our pictures. It seemed that we laughed and cried all afternoon. A milestone has been reached and we shall begin the journey again. 37 ALFORD, DENA: Drama Club 1,2,3,4 (Treasurer 4); Modern Music Masters 1,2,3,4; Soil and Water Con- servation Club 1,2,3,4 (Vice-President 4); Flag Girl 3, 4; J.H.S. 1,2,3,4 (Vice-President 4); Band 1,2,3,4 (Presi- dent 4); Choir 1,2,3,4; Jr. and Sr. Class Play. New Members The spring induction cere- mony is always anticipated with worry and excitement. To be inducted into National Honor Society, a student must maintain other qualities as well as a grade point average. Leadership, Character, and Ser- vice are also qualities a new member must possess. Our school is very proud of these new members. 45 STUDENT COUNCIL PROMOTES STUDENT PARTICIPATION. Under Ms Goffe's guidance, the council was very active and their presence was known to all in our school. The officers attend- ed an all day workshop at the Sherman House in Batesville, Indi- ana. School became a fun place on the days the group promoted “dressing up . The list of high interest activities includes: Hallow- een Dress Up, Pioneer Day, Lick'Em, Sock and Hat, T-shirt Day, and more. A scary but entertaining movie was shown for Hallow- een. The traditional Homecoming, voting for Homecoming Queen, the coronation, and Homecoming dance were all sponsored by this group. Student Council also provided service to the general public by placing notice of school functions on the sign in front of the school. Weeks of work went in to this production. Mrs. Cole soon came to be known as Mom to this hard working cast. 48 WEST SIDE STORY As the final curtain fell, the performance was a smash! There was a lot of work involved, and we loved every minute of it. It's all over for this year, but we'll look forward to it again next year. 49 TEACHER AIDES Row 1: D. Carlow, P. Gryman, P. Yearbook Staff Strives For An Award Winning Book Throughout the school year we've had to make a lot of phone calls and mail a lot of letters. We were busy all year long making appoint- ments with pho- tographers and collecting money from advertise- ments. Every- thing has to be planned out very carefully to be sure there aren't any mistakes. In the end it all pays off. Row I: S. Darling, D. Jaynes, J. Hendricks, M. Varble, T. Mathews, J. Coy. Row 2: L. Poling, G. Morris, L. Johnson, L. Tolliver. Row 3: P. Hart, B. Sublett, J. Devers, D. Chase, S. Hamilton, S. Hysell, G. Mathews. The Yearbook Staff of '80 has been hard at work this past year, and with a new advi- sor, Mrs. Hendricks, we feel that this year's annual is one of the best ever to come out of S.C.H.S. No, kids. Yearbook is not all fun and games. A lot of time, patience and just plain teamwork went into creating the Yearbook. While the staff was busy typing up copy cropping pictures, selling ads, and drawing up layouts, editors Terry Mathews and Dennis Jaynes were planning for future assignments. Everybody has to have fun sometimes, and fun is what we had while working on the Gong Show and other projects. Through our work as the staff of REMEMBER YESTERDAY, DREAM ABOUT TOMORROW..., we accomplished introduc- ing full color senior pictures. Good luck from the 1979-80 Yearbook Staff! The staff discusses business with Mrs. Hendricks. Lynni, Gerri, Maria: The Three Stooges. Mr. Pumphery is our Re- presentative from Inter- Collegiate Press. He ad- vises us on how to use copy and what's new in yearbooks. He shows us samples of covers and di- vider pages and helps us out on our deadline dates. 52 We often compare other yearbooks to get new ideas. November 9, 1979, the Yearbook and Oracle staffs drove to Indiana University Southeast at New Albany for Student Press Day. About ten area high schools participated. Our day began with a doughnut and milk breakfast provided by our hosts. During the opening session a college official welcomed us with a speech. Throughout the day we attended several workshops and participated in many discussions about our ideas on what an award winning yearbook should contain. After lunch, career sessions were hosted by radio and television personalities from KJ100, WHAS, and Louisville area television newsmen. We toured the campus and enjoyed the fireplace and lounge area in the small Union. The library and computer typesetting terminals were the favorite places. Krider Studios, Inc. does photography for us and develops our pictures. They have helped us and now we are able to take some of our own photos. 53 ART CLUB Row 1: Mike Payne, Angie Driver, Lake Ann Johnson, Georgia Morris, Tammy Jester, Patty Curl, Carol Slack, Tom- my Bovard; Row 2: Linda McDole, Laura Thompson, Tony Jackson, Robert Price, Connie Bacon, Pam Brown; Row 3: Cheryl White, Gene Stow, Bob Scudder, George Spencer, Mark Wilburn, Row 4: Carrie Nixon, Blanche Peelman, Todd Payne, Bill Browning, Mrs. Bunin; Row 5: Mary Rook, Billie Lewis, Becky Garland, Tom Springer, Brian Callahan, Tim Shackleford LETTERMAN'S CLUB Row 1: Michelle Keith, Janet Hall, Rick Daugherty, Sec.; Barry Wilson, Ginger Holdcroft, Linda Brown, Debbie Carlow, Row 2; Dale Griffin, Lonnie Furnish, Pres.; Brad Burk, Toni Gridley, Kathy Barner, Samantha Brammer, Arlene Schroeder; Row 3; Gayle Eddie Furnish, Kevin Lock, Alan Walcott; Row 4; Lonnie Walcott, Chris Riley, V- pres.; Steve Konkle, Row 5: Jerry South, John South, Charles Lock, Row 6: Steve Hysell, Todd Deaton, Treas.; Randy Allen; Row 7: Sponsor, Wayne Daugherty. 55 S.C.H.S. Entertainment was provided by the students. Music awards were given and the Modern Music Masters held their induction. This was a very special ceremony because Modern Music Masters is an honor- ary society which demands a B average in music and a C average in academic sub- jects. New members include: George Spen- cer, Kim Robinson, Tammy O'Banion, Carrie Nixon, Roger Hilligoss, Georgia Mor- ris, Lisa Gould, Andrea Brown, Karen Levell, Belinda Danner, Amy Althoff, Mary Nell Jaynes. At left: Carol Slack and Joey Green perform part of the induction cere- mony. 69 D.A.R. Good Citizen Award Todd Deaton was chosen this year's D.A.R. Good Citizen. This is indeed an honor because Todd and two other seniors were chosen from among all the seniors by the seniors themselves. Then, the faculty voted for one of the three chosen by the senior class. Todd became the choice. He re- presents the qualities of good character, which the Daughters of the American Revolution emphasize—Dependability, Service, Leadership, Patriotism. 70 I E8$ 53532353485348532353534848482323 Pacers Finish Strong in the Row 1: Brad Burk, Kevin Lock, Ken Lock, Steve Konkle, Gayle Furnish, Row 2: Chris Riley, Steve Hysell, Randy Allen, Todd Deaton, Lawrence Chase, Rick Daugherty. 72 The 1979-80 Varsity Basketball season was some- what of a success. 'Two Tickets I 1980 Prom Queen and King Candidates: Ladonna Poling, Volina Stultz, Tammy McClellan, Janet Hall, John Garland, Randy Allen, Barry O'Neal, Lonnie Furnish. 118 To Paradise The 1980 Prom was held in Madison, Indiana, at the Clifty Falls Inn, April 26, a romantic Saturday night. The band, ABA- CUS, played many of our favorite songs during the evening, in- cluding our theme song, Two Tickets to Paradise . Randy Allen and Volina Stultz, a dashing duo, were crowned King and Queen of the 1980 Jr.-Sr. Prom. The evening was enjoyed immensely and will be remembered in the years to come. 11V 120 Alan Archer Scott Arvin Janet Atkins Rhonda Ault Connie Bacon Daryl Baer Kathy Berner Norma Bishop Lisa Boggs Wilma Brogan Chris Brown Linda Brown Pam Brown Teresa Chandler Tracy Chandler Debbie Chapman David Christman Devonna Cleeter Eric Clerkin Mike Cole Billie Collins Eric Courtney Rick Daugherty Teresa Devers Troy Feerer Vincent Ferry Steven Fitzgerald Mark Flood Andy Green Joe Green Ronnie Gregory Kenneth Gulley Mark Hall Sara Hamilton Todd Hayes Steven Hewitt Connie Hite Dennis Hoffman Ginger Holdcraft Michelle Holder Kelly Huff Marsha Hughes i?? First, Ju- niors start raising money for their Senior Class Trip. This goes on all year, and while this goes on, there is the class play, the prom, the prom committee meet- ings, and a whole lot more. There is a lot of work to be done that no one really thinks about, for instance, cleaning up after a ball game. Without our sponsor, Mr. Montgomery, none of this would be possible. There's a lot of work in- volved, but we will miss it when we're gone. The three act comedy centered around an ab- sent minded professor played by ALAN ARCHER. The play begins as a few crooks, played by JOHN SPENCER, JOHN JONES, and BRIAN SUBLETT, steal the statue of Niobe, played by RAE JEAN JOHN- SON, and hide it in the professor's home. Mrs. Allen, the professor's wife, played by CONNIE BACON, in- vites a few college students over to help celebrate the professor's birthday. The students were played by JANET ATKINS, DARYL BAER, CAROL PENICK, TRACI RAY, and LLOYD STROHL. The constable was KEVIN MC SWAIN. KIM ROBINSON was Stage Director. Make up: Michelle Holder, Lisa See, Tonia Scotti, Kim Walker, Doris Jones. Lighting: Shawn Penick, Deron Johnson. Receptionists: Kathy Berner, Rita Waltz. The play directors were Ken Beckett and Martha Cole. The professor has fainted again! Traci argues her point. Carol mocks the statue. 126 George Adams Susan Adams Deborah Baatz Mark Bailey Cathi Bear Leah Belew Bobby Bolden Dwight Boles Lisa Bovard Brenda Bowling Brenda Brady Andrea Brown Tony Brown Brad Burk Lannie Canada Jill Carfield Kendall Chandler Vicki Chase Margie Ciampone Dennis Clements Tawonna Cloat Teresa Cope Cindy Crabtree Eric Deaton Jill Demaree Eileen Denoon Jeffery Devers Mark Dusch Tracy Eaves Abby Emmich Cheryl Feerer Steven Fugate Chris Fuller Gayle Furnish Paul Furnish Jolene Gilpin Gregory Green Dale Griffin Julie Gulley Kimberly Gulley Pamela Gullion Beverly Hankins « 128 Rita Harlow Tina Hatton Bobby Hilligoss Debbie Hipshire Marilyn Houze Anthony Jackson Steve James Robert Johnson Daniel Jones Jay Keith Sondra Keith Steven Konkle Diana Koons Eric Leap Deena Lewis Kenneth Lock Kevin Lock Londa Lyon John Makos Jeffery Mangold Carlos May Gerald McClure Joseph McEndree Denise McFarland Brian McSwain Pallas Meeks Cynthia Medlin Melissa Melton Daniel Miller Jeannie Miller Sara Miller John Nevins Nicki Nixon Brian Otter Peggy Otter Glenn Pavy Karen Peelman Julie Penvose Frank Pike Mike Powers Daniel Ramseyer Rosie Regensburger 129 Robin Robbins Vince Roberts Mike Roeschlein Danny Schuler Dwayne Scranton Bobby Scudder Robert Scudder Wade Self Felicia Shackleford Rebecca Shaw Machelle Sigmon Sue Smith Denise Snodgrass George Spencer Gene Stow Mary Stultz Doris Thomas Ester Tolliver Jeffery Trembly Jeff Turner Leroy Turner Georgette Varble Jo Ann Waller Mark Wilburn Cindy Works Kirk Works Robert Wood Shawn Yocum A Sophomore belongs to a group of people who have a bright future in store. Sophomores can look ahead and say they only have two years of school left. They can look forward to next year when they can go to the Junior-Senior Prom. A Sophomore spends fnost of the time thinking about a driver's li- cense and dating. This is a point in life when a per- son wants a lot for only a little. Parents and teachers may sometimes get on your nerves. When this hap- pens, you have to realize that what they are doing, most of the time, is for your own good. In the Sophomore year your English teacher may ask you to do such things as a ten page research pa- per and to read “Julius Caesar . Biology is a subject that all Sophomores have to take to graduate. It is the class where students have to disect the pigs! This may be bad at times, but the teacher is there to help when things go wrong. Health Safety is another one of those “have to subjects. Sometimes it is a bor- ing class and at other times it is exciting. Through all the good times, and bad, in your Sophomore year, remember this one thing: you are part of one of the greatest classes in the SCHOOL!!! 130 Sophomore Officers Row 1: Ester Tolliver, Treasurer; Steve Konkle, Secre- tary; John Druba, Sponsor.
