Makin' the drag has con- tinued on as always, but instead of the old familiar Ray's Drive-In, it now circles the Sonic. Jaws made a ripple on the book and movie scene, and the few who hadn't seen the movie or read the book found themselves left out of many grotesque conversations con- cerning people being masticated by mammoth sharks. For months every- one was discussing the film. Women's Lib marched on, blue jeans faded, and the drag down Broadway continued. Years from now we will lookt back on all of this and laugh, but right now it's our LIFE- STYLE. 3 , a, vi . A- .pg ,-'9 rs, .1 , X . X , QQ gp ' . Ii' viii? The musicians, the ropers, the ac- tors, and the athletes all make up a part of Sweetwater High School. Eve- ryone from the lowest Freshman to the most prestigious Senior has a role to play in the life of SHS. 5 For each kind of SHS student, there is an activity. The football players finish their afternoon workouts just as the band begins to warm up for their evening practice sessions. The drama enthusiasts spend hours in the audi- torium as the yearbook staff works frantically to meet deadlines. The largest event of the year is Homecoming. Clubs prepare floats for the parade, queens are elected and crowned, and numerous pep rallies are held during the week. After the bonfire on Thursday night, the week is climaxed on Friday by a downtown parade and the Homecom- ing football game. ,mi 6 .a xfjl, I tv...- 'A Y- ,g.M..,, W5?: 'f 3: ,jr , ' .Jw Activitie ' vf,-Q I L I I i, I 1' if' ' ' E'.TfETfK 'l , x :Sis Qsiglisii lm' ' . 1 v 1 1 1 114, fu V, ,C, fig, a n H X w PM 1.. ,.,, .-1 V- ,K 'ff , Kr ,fd ,1 P- L ' ff- ' 'Www' . .M .-av , . w M., A X Q , , HA . After years of stagnation, the town seemed to boom with new industry and growth. With the staggering changes came growing pains. Two elections in the late summer and early fall provided weeks of heated controversy through- out the city. The elections called for the building of the new courthouse and off-premises consumption of alcoholic beverages. Both issues passed despite the efforts of history minded citizens, who opposed the destruction of the old courthouse tbuilt in 1917l, and local church-goers who opposed the alcohol issue. No matter what opinion a Sweet- water citizen holds, his community has a past to be proud of and a future to look forward to. 11 ?f':.c 1 ' ,C -- af :fi--If --.Y V Y ,, f2f:IU'-- ,, .' gl: 41, 5,-w1g1,,'..' i ' 'f -,.,g.,4 --K , , ff 1 ' , -- ' , lv -,1 I-'52 gl I: . Since their practice sessions were dependent on the weather, the team began workouts at the beginning of the year and practiced throughout the year whenever the weather allowed. The team faced stiff competition from op- ponents as well as strong inner com- petition within the team as they vied for the number one positions on the ladder. Many people who were not mem- bers ofthe team also managed to find the time to pursue the sport. Tennis has become more popular around the SHS campus as more people than ever before are finding it enjoyable to play or even observe from the sidelines. 122 l. The old tree stood gnarled against the sunlight. its trunk was weathered and beaten, and looked as if the hands of time had worked at it for centuries. It withstood the test of time. Our country has been beaten, stepped on, and mangled by time, but it still stands. Although we may not approve everything our ancestors have done in the past 200 years, will our posterity agree with everything we do in the next 200 years? It is up to us. I X O nclusion .-- ff. Students begin worrying about averages, and seniors begin filling out seemingly endless college applications. UlL competitors begin hours of practice in preparation for the spring contests. The close of the year brings about many conflicting feelings. The Fresh- men can not believe they made it through their first year. The Sophomores can not decide whether to act as upperclassmen or lowerclassmen, and the Juniors begin to get that first twinge of senioritis. The Seniors realize that day in lvlay they have wished for so long is finally here, and begin to feel they aren't so anxious for it after all.
