Lux et Veritas I am the light that Shows the way to truth: For three full decades I have guided youth In search of wisdom as a way of Life: A beacon in this frenzied world of strife. Let there be light: an edict voiced by God, Has been my mandate since first our fathers trod The hallowed halls of buildings now long gone: But still, in new surroundings, I shine on. Qfwesa efffffo A,,....1-so-v-I I was there on September I5, l952 when Ubewitched, bothered and bewildered you entered the portals of Sweetwater. I was there as your awe of personal free- dom and the unknown experiences ahead was replaced with a sense of responsibility. confidence to accomplish goals, and quiet pride-within yourself and for your school. I am here as you number your final happy, hazy, hurried days, witnessing the climax of this chapter of your bool: of education. I shall be here to watch over those WhO follow you, I am the Sweetwater LAMP OF TRA- DITION.

As far baclc in history as the recorded worcls of Homer, man has been guided by the lamps of learning in all areas of human endeavor. A better symbol therefore could not have been found than the one that has served to guide Sweetwater students in their efforts to be adequately prepared to meet the require- ments of American Citizenship, Never before has it been so vitally necessary that you proceed forth into society from school loudly proclaiming that the aim of education is to attain the freedom and Dignity of Man. Bear in mind that to attain this ideal you must be completely free to worlc, to develop fully the talents with which God has endowed each one of us. The future strength and greatness of the United States depends on the graduates of our high schools growing wiser and remembering the ideals and human qualities that wrought the Miracle of America - a nation strong, self reliant, enterprising, dignified and happy.
