Senior Gzrls Basketball In 1947 48 the Sweetwater Senior Girls coached by C A Lewls played 31 games They won 27 of these games and lost 4 They were beaten by New Llberty Ron Oclna and Hydro The girls won the Conference Trophy the Invitational Tournament at Erlck and the County and Drstrxct Tournaments at Sayre They were defeated ln the Regional Tournament one polnt by Hydro who went on to win the State Tournament The year 1948 49 proved to be another good season The Semor Girls coached by Mr Lewis won 2.3 of the 27 games played They deserved the title to the Conference Trophy by losing only one Conference game They were defeated ln the Invitational Tourna ment at Elk City and 1n the fmals at the County Tournament by the Highway glrls They were taken out of the District Tournament by Retrop The 1949 50 season thus far has proved satisfactory The gxrls again coached by Mr Lewis have lost only 4 of the Z8 games played This year the Sweetwater girls have scored 869 pomts whlle their opponents have a total score of 572 points The remarkable thing about this team 18 that there was no one brxlllantly outstand ing player they all worked together smoothly each gurl dolng her respective Job Whex the time came for a swift play they drove 1h like veteran players and made the fans cheer They won the Conference Trophy the lnvltatxonal Tournament at Erick the County Tournarnent and the Dtstrlct Tournament At the time this book was put Into prmt the girls were playmg in the Regional Tournament at Altus benzor Boys Basketball The Seniors on the Sweetwater boys basketball team that play their last year for Sweetwater High School are Troy Sites A V Lenderman jr and Gerald Tipton The Sweetwater ball team played Delhx in thexr openmg game of the County Tourna ment They downed the Delhi Buffalos 40 to 30 Themr second game was wxth Carter Sweetwater was defeated by 14 poxnts There was a three way tie between Highway New Liberty and Sweetwater for flrst place in the Conference Hlghvuay defeated New Liberty 41 to 30 on February 14 Sweet water won thexr game with Highway February 18 with a score of 33 to 31 That IS the first Conference Trophy ever won by the Sweetwater Senior Boys Basketball Team Senzor Boys Baseball With Perry K jones as coach the Sweetwater Baseball Team won the County Base ball Tournament which was played at Sayre and brought home the only baseball trophy which sits tn the Sweetwater High School Building Players and their positxons are Troy Daine Sites first base and pitcher Ben Whipkey fxrst base and pitcher Charley Lenderman second base Ross Coffey short stop A V Lenderman jr third base Bobby Rothenberger catcher J H Stewart left field Don Gordon center field Wayford Smith right field Charles Smith center field, Eldon Smith left field and second base J B Barham catcher LaDon Killmgsworth right field SCORES OF BASEBALL GAMES Sweetwater Be rlm Sweetwater Delhx Sweetwater Delhi Sweetwater Highway Sweetwater Highway 9 Sweetwater Carter Sweetwater Delhi Z1 I I , W 0 Y ' ,V ...zz '..5 ..5 '.,...0 . .,3 ...5 ..4 ..3 ....l6 no 1.3 soul aol ooo4
