Concert Band Overcoming many inconveniences, the Instrumental Music Department kept a full calendar of activities. In the fall, when school started, there were no lights in the Band Room and being located in an unfinished wing of the building, it was quite cool. Nothing hindered the Band from practicing daily, and when football started, they played at the Maryvale and Pine Hill home games. The Band was invited to play at Civic Stadium for the Balti- more- Pittsburgh football game and the U.B. -Columbia game as part of a mass band which included ten high school bands. The band also marched for a Halloween parade in the Hartford Estates Community and in the local Decoration Day Parade. Seven of the band members attended the All State Sectional Music Festival at Lancaster to play in the 120 piece Senior High Band in November. Three of our Band members performed in the Erie County High School Festival at Wfilliamsville Central School and four other Students played in the Erie County junior High Band at Kleinhan'5 Music Hall in March. The Senior Concert Band played an assembly program at the Elementary School and plan to make an annual event of performing at both Elementary schools. Several soloists as well as the entire Concert Band traveled to Barker Central School to compete in the New York State Spr7ng Music Festival in May, Our 16 piece Dance Orchestra played at the first high school dance held in the Elementary School gym. The group also played at a dance sponsored by the Ellicott Creek Junior Drum Corps at the Ellicott Creek Fire Hall. They also performed for a dance held in the Williamsy'ille High School for the Erie County Music Festival. Our newly formed junior High Band has developed very well and will become more active in the future. The entire Instrumental Music Department presented the first Spring Band Concert in our new High School this year.
