WQQ Our Building-Progress ln Pictures Because the school population of the Sweet Home Central School District was rapidly increasing, the Board of Education saw the need for a modern Junior-Sem ior High School which would hold about 1200 pupils. Since the site for the building was already owned and approved by both the district and the state, the vote to build was passed on December 14, 1956. The groundbreaking took place eight months later, on August 14, 1957. In short order, a massive structure began to grow on the chosen site at the corner of Sweet Home and Skinnerville Roads. Thanks to the co-operation of Stanley C. Podd and Associates, architects, and the john W. Cowper, Co. classrooms were opened to students on September 8, 1958. On February 2, 1959, during the second semester, the industrial arts shops, the arts and crafts room, and the gymnasium were opened for use. Later in February the cafeteria was serving meals to both the Junior and Senior High School students. The Sweet Home Junior-Senior High School was finally completed and our building was dedicated on May 17, 1959, less than a year after the laying of the cornerstone. 'I
