Hitching Post At the appointed hour, freshmen and sophomores gathered together to fight it out over the possession of the hitching post. The horse-head fig- ure is annually the center of an event where the two classes concurrently attempt to coat the post with the paint of their class color. At the end of the evening, the freshmen were vic- torious and the hitching post was left to remain black until next year. The sophomores then gained possession of the rocl . 1 S Scudenc Life

Fall Step Singing Once again, Sweet Briar girls all gatlnened with their class around the senior stains to start off the year with singing. Freshmen organized their first group effort of the year, while se- niors, firmly established upon the Golden Stains, sang out the tnadi- tional senion song ... all amid laughs, smiles, cheens and shouts of woo- sie! Club Day One of the newest tradi- tions at Sweet Briar is Club Day. It tal es place about a month into the yean and is bas- ically held to acquaint Freshnnen with the different clubs and organizations on campus and their functions. Club Day is sponsored by In- terclub, headed by the Vice- President of the Student Government.
