Springstep Singing Graduation 1 3S2 Spring is a time of mixed emotions. The excitement of graduation is present; yet the apprehension that goes along with it is also very real. At spring step-singing the songs are filled with nostalgia as seniors and un- derclassmen recall many fond memo- ries. Everyone begins to prepare for graduation. For the seniors it marks the end of their college career, but the beginning of a new life beyond the hal- lowed halls. For the underclassmen, it marlcs the loss of special friends, but the transition of moving up. Studenc Life

Junior Banquet . . . Lantern Bearing The night of Junior Banquet is met with much excitemient and cheer by the Junior Class. Dn this night Juniors receive their rings and fight with the senior Class for possession of the Golden Stairs. Junior Banquet is traditionally a fun, crazy night — but it is also a very special night for each Junior as she looks forward to her senior year. Lantern Bearing takes place at the end of the year, near graduation. Each senior asks a girl to make a lantern for her and bear it in a special possession around the quad. These lanterns represent some- thing special to the senior they were made for. Lantern Bearing is one of the most beautiful traditions at Sweet Briar be- cause it recognizes the special friend- ships that are formed and the senior ' s appreciation of their years at Sweet Briar. Founders ' Day Connect Only Connect were the words of Dean Fon- taine Belfond, repeated over and over during hen address at Opening Convocation. She focused on setting goals for the year and then striving to connect with those goals. President Harold B. White- man also spoke on the stability and yet continual advance- ment of the college over the years. It was his last Convoca- tion at Sweet Briar after 1 -4 years with the college. ! D Student Life
