This ' car we present with a picture of ourselves, a picture of the world, a world that is both far removed from us and yet one of which we are an inseparable part. It is a w orld that we arc learnino- to live in, a world that wc strive to understand. Alav the comparisons place these vcars and this vear in proper perspective for us as we remember each, remindinsj us of the time we have spent here and of the world that is ours. Nelson Miss Martha von Briesen Mr. Gene Campbell EDITOR ' S COMMENT . . . The designs used in the 1963 Briar Patch were adapted from Henri Matisse ' s paper cutouts. ' Ehcse cutouts were created toward the end of the artist ' s life w hen he was unable to work at an easel, and climax his interest in tlat color and abstract design. Cutting into colored paper per- mitted him to draw directh- in color so that the two became one. Draw ing with scissors, Matisse arrived at a rare distillation of form which aims at the (|uintessence, the universal, and reminds us of the great differences of an object ' s form.
