OFFICERS, left to right: F. Parker. President: B. Colwill, Vice-President; Gibson, Secretary: S. Ta lor, Treasurer. Senior Class The Class of 1959 has established an outstanding record in its four years at Sweet Briar. As Freshmen, this class set a high scholastic standard for itself by plac- ing a great number on Freshman Honors. This standard was upheld by those who received Junior Honors. The Junior Year Abroad attracted ten members of the class to study in various universities throughout Europe. The extra-curricular activities of the present Senior Class have been outstanding in organization and original- ity. 1956 saw the Freshman show titled Bermuda. In 1957 the scene shifted to Jamaica, theme of the May Day festivities. Junior year arrived and the Briar Patch arranged life at Sweet Briar in 1958 upon a Chess Board. In late November of 1958 the Senior Show, The Garden Party, returned to the tradition of a show- written and directed bv Seniors. The concept of women in politics was well received by Sweet Briar audiences, and will be remembered for years to come. Reaching the Golden Stairs last spring marked the beginning of several responsibilities which placed the Class of 1959 in a position of leadership at Sweet Briar. Student Government innovated the use of parliamentary procedure in its meetings. This new system allowed a great deal of business to be dealt with swiftly and uni- formly. The Sweet Briar News added interesting fea- ture articles and weekly columns to its format this year. The community is grateful to the Class of 1959 for the wonderful job it has done in all it has undertaken and for the fine example it has set academically and socially for the college. The responsibilities handed down by the Senior Class will be accepted dutifully but the positions will be hard to fill. 27 , r : ' : : 1 -f r • ♦ ♦ ♦ -
