M Thirty years ago Sweet Briar Academy be- gan its initial year with an enrollment of thirty- six students. It is with pride and admiration that we look back on the classes which have preceded us, and which have made possible the Sweet Briar we know. With great hope and eager anticipation we look to the future. We feel we are now beginning a new era in which growth and great changes are inevitable. It is with this in mind that we have made the 1936 Briar Patch, hoping that it may be a tangible expression of what Sweet Briar means to us to-day. We have endeavored to reflect truly the beauty and happiness of our college life; and if in the years to come this book brings back memories of these happy college days, its purpose will have been fulfilled.
