The Great atastrophe SENIQR CLASS PLAY I Robert Drew, a wealthy American, is called to New York to settle some business matters. His daughter, Yiolet Drew, is left in charge of Dorothea Primrose, a governess. Immediately after her father leaves, Violet begins to plan how she can see black Kennard, a young fellow with whom she is in love. Mr. Drew had prohibited their meeting because Jack was not wealthy. After considerable planning Violet gets Miss Primrose to go to town to do some shopping. Milliken, the Irish servant, has been told not to let any tramps into the house. Soon after these instructions have been given an umbrella mender appears and Milliken has to get rid of him, by pushing him down the stairs. Tilly, the housemaid, runs in crying, You have killed him. The frightened Irishmen thinks of course that he has killed the peddler, while it was only the cat which the tramp fell upon. Tilly sees through this and consents not to tell of this murder if Milliken will be her servant. He readily consents. Violet sends word to lack Kennard that Miss Primrose is away and he comes to the house. Everything goes fine until Tilly sees Miss Primroses' carriage coming. lack hides in another room and causes a commotion by groaning. Milliken, Miss Primrose, Tilly and Violet prepares to look for the ghost. lack enteres with a sheet over his head. The governess faints and Milliken has a tit. Violet lifts the sheet and Tilly throws her apron over her head to shut out the view. Ben, the coachman, has shown his affections for Tilly but Milliken has aroused his suspicion so he corners the Irishman and accuses him of trying to win Tilly. This is finally straight- ened out by Milliken telling that he loves none but his own Kathleen over in Ireland. Ben makes things right with Tilly by buying her a new hat. lIilliken's troubles increase so he finally decides to tell every- thing to -lack. Upon hearing of this murder, .Tack prepares to see a lawyer for Milliken. The poor Irishman hasxlack to write a letter to his sweetheart in Ireland. By mistake Violet reads the letter and thinks Jack has committed a crime. Things are straightened out at last and Iack starts to mail the letter. Tilly sees Milliken's state of mind so he tells him it was only the cat that was killed. Tack is stopped before he reaches the lawyer's office. .Iack receives a letter from his uncle saying that all his fortune is left to him. -Iack's poverty was all that kept Violet's father from consenting to the marriage. The couple now get married, Miss Primrose giving her consent. Robert Drew returns and everything is explained to him. He does his part by asking Miss Primrose to marry him.
