Sophomore Class History One bright September morning in 1918 twenty-six Freshmen entered the Swayzee High School with the idea that there were great monsters to conquer, monsters in the form of Algebra, Latin and linglish. Wie furnished entertainment for the rest of the school the first week but that soon passed by and we started into the work with great enthusiasm and pep , During the first term of school we had one new member added to our list but this was overbalanced by three of our members leaving school. At the end of the second semester there remained twenty-one stu- dents who had been strong enough to endure all the hardships of the Freshmen's troubled way. ln 1919 there were twenty-two students to begin the Sophomore year. lnstead of furnishing the school pleasute this year we gave the Freshies that privilege. VVe also gave them a few hints and instructions. In a few weeks the number of students in- creased to twenty-four. At the end of the first semester one student changed schools leaving us with twenty-three. The Sophomore class has helped in the Athletic Association hy contributing Ada Black to the girl's team Claud Galhreath to the second team, and Merwyn Mullins for yell leader. Dean Hardesty started with the second team but on account of break- ing his arm, had to quit for the season. . ln social functions the Sophomores have taken a high place. They gave one member to the High School Qrchestra and they are right there when it comes to helping out in social functions and doings. Under the leadership of Mr. Tierney the Sophomores have been a great credit to the school and the class of 1922 will be one of the finest to graduate from S. H. S.
