These manuscripts reveal that each member of the faculty made a distinct contribution to the class. The teachers were not merely for- mal instructors, but rather pleasant individuals in whom the students could confide. As the teachers and students became better acquainted, there seemed to develop an intangi- ble quality which brought about, a- mong the students, the realization that there can be a joy in learning, andthe desire to further their know- ledge. Because the faculty as a whole was probably the most outstanding single factor in the education of these students, we feel they are worthy of recognition. To the teachers of the Class of 1960, therefore, this book is dedi- cated . . . fxi A35

The following manuscripts were recently unearthed near the remains of an ancient school building. Although the Cornerstone marked Swarthmore High School 1960, in which they were found, showed no outward signs of value, its contents were of obvious importance. The pages which follow have been compiled to show not only the character oi the Class of 1960, but also that of each of its members. Despite the age-cracked pages, the material is being pub- lished in its original form.
