, Pom FOOTBALL It wasn't because they didn't try. With names like Hoppin' Hal , Foozooski , and Old Man even the most unenlight- ened knows the subject is foot- ball. Combine the blocking of the blind line with the running of the disabled backs. Toss in the stump-handed end and the vicious tackling of the spindly- leggedbacker-uppers. Addthe unequaled spirit of the players and coaches, and the long-suf- fering mothers. Let stand for three months of long, sweaty, dedicated hours and you have football--Swarthmore High- - 19 59. if FIRST ROW: D. Roberts, G. Gilmour, D. Wilkie, B. Jackson, F. Schaeffer, B. Wagstaif, B. BOY ' BA KETBALL We11, we have one consolation--we can't do any worse the second half. In spite of October practices and late 5:30 practices, there was such a large turnout for the team that the Rees e's Raiders were formed for scrimmage purposes. The smell of lini- ment often pervaded the locker room after the punishing blocking and pushing drills. Speaking of liniment, gallons were needed after the Clifton game. The team unanim- ously decided to wear helmets, shoulder pads, and suspenders when Clifton return- ed the visit. Although the Varsity was the shortest in quite a while, the boys possess- ed a better-than-average shooting ability andprovedto be the best Swarthmore team in the last three years. FIRST ROW: D.
