Tml class trrp to Baltram s garden We were all happv because of the consprcuous rbsence of Mrs Mannel s three narled paddle The College Avenue class was luckv enough to take a trrp to Brex er s lce cleanr plant and Dave Campbell nearlv made hll'l1S6lf srck eatlng the delrcrous rce cream cake he w on The brrght spot rn the week for the Rutgers Avenue bows and grrls w as the dav when they went up to the Hrgh School for shop and sewlng respectrvelw Vle verv happrlv nrade use of the excellent opportunrtw to plax hookre VN e had reached the peak of our glade school days when we went up to the hlgh school to meet our new teachers and classmates of Junror Hrgh School Next we notlce a llber tv bell pm clipped to the book As we muse over the trrp to Phrladelphra rn the lth grade we renrember the Betsy Ross house and lunch at Horn and Hal dart s Thls was the V631 when we welcomed many new adClltlOI'lS to our class among them handsome Drck Tones who set nlany a g1llS heart a flutter untrl Carolyn took over BIISS Barton and Mr Bell had the trylng task of berng homeroom teachers to the new pl oblem chrldr en of the Junlor Hrgh School We soon lrved up to the name when some one set off an alarm clock rn a desk IH Mlss Barton s room A fl antrc five mrnutes was spent searchrng for the barted desk A star rs glued to the followlrg page of our memory album It rs a remnant of the days rn the elghth glade when we pasted the constellatlons on the cerllng of Mr Udell s room Moments rn hls room stand out brrghtly rn our memorres especlally the dav Bobble set off the stlnk bomb Mr Udell further enlrghtened our studres by frequent 6 oclock l'l10lI'llI'1g' bud walks He had an ardent followrng of grlls especlally Gmny and Hrlda We trred to conquer percentages rn Mr Mrller s classes however hls col lectron of Jokes rncludrng the one rn whlch he fell out of hls chalr lent an amuslng arr to the work A smrlmg plcture of Bob McCowan appears remrndlng us of the great honor he an artlcle about the llfe of an average boy at home and at school whlch was sent to the Latrn Anrerrcan countrres Mrss Engle gave us a very enlrghtenrng course on garbage drsposal and other crvlc dutles but she drdn t seem to know how to cope wlth Graham Foster the day he was late to class Thrs was our brg year ln Junror Hlgh because we were the lrnk between youth and maturrty ln the school It seems that one of the steps rn becomrng mature IS Latrn so we took on Doctor Irwln s Jokes and Chrlstmas carols wrth cheerful determrnatlon A crumpled program from our tenth grade year clearly remlnds us of the out standlng and unusual pageant about world peace whlch the whole class helped to produce Although few of us wrll ever forget the remarkable performances ot nlany people especlally Steve Spencer as narrator the most remarkable event of the evenlng was the Chaos Scene starrrng Betty Spencer and Anne Wrlght Thrs year was our first chance of grvrng a blg dance and our Soph Hop wrth the theme Strlctly Instru mental rn our oprnrons was strrctly wonderful We were all kept busy wrth parties projects and trlps When the class tr udged lnto the museum our teachers were qurte sure they would never find us all after we got lost among the antrques and Egyptran munlmres Sports also occupred the spotlrght and we were mrghty proud of Tubbs when he made All Delco Of course, how were we to know that he was gorng to nrake lt rn hrs Junlor and senror year too The next page rs covered wrth marks resemblrng chrcken scratches but we finally figured out that rt nlust be one of our feeble attempts to get a better mark than an E from Mr Fhrrstran Musrc as well as algebra thrrved and a boys quartet developed It s too bad thev couldn t srng at the Junror Prom but then most people were more rnterested rn other thrngs 'Neptune s Krng dom of course We leaned tow ard the French srde at our SEIN IOR BALL Sam Nowell spent the entlre evenrng chasrng those darn spots but he never caught one Our next partv was one grven by the parents durmg whlch we proved to be adept at square dancrng Many peoples hldden talents were drscovered durrng the Betty Hart Show and our senror play Prrde and Pregudrce Although 1946 to 1944 was our happrest year of all there were some sober faces on the nlght of our gr aduatlon because no matter how nluch we had complamed during the past we were stlll sure that we would mlss our happy davs at Swarthmore of f' V I-'FHS 19Pl VCA I 'lporlov ' . . .. v . . v , . , ' . . .
