Nine years pass in rapid l?l succession. Until we, as seniors, lead the procession. Ah, but not yet to graduate, For, far be it from us to lie. We are but seniors in junior high. 1: FRESHMEN As grade, the ninth, begins in September, Out is our welcome mat to many new members For whom a picnic is held in the College Woods With hot dogs and ice cream, the self same goods, That help to proclaim our party great! As chief executive, Doug's our man: He vows to do the best he can, But among us all the real aces, You know the faces of Ginny and Ford Who each walked off with a Legion Award. SOPHOMORES For the new school year, we have nary a care With Ford Wiggins in the presidential chair C Overseeing the Soph Hop so that it nothing lacks Of setting a record for fun, While keeping strictly in the black. Memorable is our trip to the Graphic Sketch Club Where, to be frank, we acted like lugs Throwing snowballs in the museum and running up steps, It's sometimes hard to fathom at the start What real angels we are at heart. Circumstances: A chord is struck on the piano, and instantly all, well almost all talking ceases, and every eye is focussed on Miss Blodgett's baton. Basses - - Tenors - - Altos - - Sopranos - - ready? - - sing! Melody courses throughout the room and leaks out to steal away to other parts of the school building. Sing out, Tenors! Do you realize, Chorus, that there are only two more weeks before the Christmas Program? Two weeks speed by, and Christmas Carols, sung by the Chorus, unfold a fitting backdrop for the play, And the Greatest of These Is Charity, written and enacted by the 10A section. Days, weeks, months ily, and renewed vigor on the part of the Chorus announces the approaching Spring Concert. Climaxing the school year, the Chorus, accompanied by the Swarthmore Symphony Orchestra, presents In Praise of Music, a Festival Ode by Henry Purcell. Senior Play On the even1ng of February 15 1941 a large group of people seated 1n the audltonum of Swarthmore H1gh School were transported far beyond the bounds of t1me and space as they watched the Sen1or Class present Pomander Walk by Lou1s N Parker The audlence was waited out Ch1sw1ck way halfway to Fauyland where f1Ve pr1m l1ttle houses stood sedately 1n a row all ready to conyure forth all sorts of fascmatmg characters For more than two hours the aud1ence watched spellbound the strange plott1ngs and contnvmgs whlch falrly bubbled along the entue Walk And then the curtcun fell and Pomander Walk became a th1ng of the past How ever the proud presenters of Pomander Walk w1ll never forget 1t for the Sen1or Play ably coached by M1ss Armstrong and contnbuted to 1n some way by every member of the Sen1or Class was a real success 1 1 1 1 - - 11 11 . . ,, . . . . , . ,, . . . . Garnet e.-I Six times this year the staff members elbowed their way through the hustle in Miss Cheyneys office in a strained last minute rush to get the Garnet among the regular office workers and this feeling melted away when the final results were distributed Under the editorship of Virginia Craemer with Barbara Blundm as assistant editor the magazine withdrew from interscholastic compe t1t1on and concentrated on being a publication for Swarthmore High School alone A large original literary section illustrated editorials photographs the Elmer humor sports and exceptional art work made the Garnet a welcome sight around school Although Miss Kirk the literary sponsor and M1ss Bader the production advisor were new the year was wholly successful 4 t mnfli. w - 1 . In short, the Cabinet is the backbone of the very democratic system of Swarthmore High School.
