',' . 3311! urine, lfLf5lC Uelf' CHORUS Under the ahle direction of Miss Alice Blod' gett, who came to us in Septemher, the chorus has made decided progress. The first puhlic appearance of the chorus was late in Decemher, when a Christmas carol prof gram was presented to an appreciative audience in the high school auditorium. This date also marked the first appearance of the Rutgers Ave' nue School Choir, composed of pupils from the iifth and sixth grades. The sixtyfhve chorus memliers climaxed their season in the annual spring concert held for the henelit of the scholarship fund. Harvey B. Garl's ingenious arrangement of Walt Whitnizinis I Hear America Singingf a modern cantata for mixed voices, was presented. The Swarthmore Symphony Orchestra, conducted hy Dr, W. F. U, Swann, as in former years, arranged its own program and accompanied the chorus. Mziy 25. the chorus repeated its performance in a radio hroadcast over station WFIL, with other musical organi:ations of the school. LU QI' BAND e O O O O O The band has been steadily climbing to greater and greater heights ever since it was started two years ago. During the past year it has been possible to raise sufficient funds from various sources, all within the borough of Swarthmore, for the purchase of complete uniforms for each member and necessary instruments. It was largely through the efforts and enthusiasm of Dr. Robert Disque that this was made possible. In their second annual concert the band thrilled the towns' people by playing marches and other appropriate pieces, one of which was written by teacherfdirector, Mr, John jenny. Also, at this concert the junior Band, composed of pupils from the lower grades, made its first appearance. During the year the band played for most of the football games, at the annual Alumni Day program at Swarthmore College, for the Ivlemorial Day exercises of the Harold Ainsf worth Post of the American Legion, and for the students of Boothwyn and Burlington THE ORCHESTRA The orchestra, under the direction of Mr. john Jenny, has provided music for the school activif ties. In the Christmas program, an arrangement of Christmas music, Beneath the Holly, and carols by a brass quartet, were featured, and on the night of She Stoops To Conquer, it presented selections from the works of Haydn and Handel, contemporaries of Qliver Goldsmith. Later in the spring, the orchestra played for the Blackfriar production. The year was climaxed when the orchestra, along with the chorus, broad' cast over WFIL on lvlay 15. Thus the foundaf tion has been laid for an organization which will be felt more and more strongly as time passes. emu Me 9 M, if 3 SEIIIOR PHW A hush fell over the audience asscmhled once more to view the annual senior play. The lights dimmed and the curtains parted to reveal an 18th century drawingfroom, an amhitious, panf eled set which had a truly professional appear' ance. And yet, not less finished were the actors who were living, for that short time on the stage, the lovahle and sometimes comical figures which Oliver Goldsmith had created in his She Stoops to Conquer. For more than six weeks hefore the perform' ance. however, the auditorium had echoed with yawns, giggles, and sighs. And at rehearsals, 26 How do I get there? and Whzit's my linef ' from the players, and How can you people he so awful? from the coach, were familiar lines' hetweenftheflines For years to come we will all rememher the work we did and the fun we had hefore our play. Eating apples, painting flats, memorizing lines, and, of course, cutting classes made our play a most fascinating experience from start to finish. And after it was all over, Miss Arm' strong, who had worked patiently and kindly with us, was forced to admit that we had had fun and that she was proud of our performance, fl700f6g!,f5 The memhers of Ye Blaekfriurs have heen es' peeially energetic this year in supplying their friends and their parents with entertainment. From seven to seventy yearbooks in three years, to make us the largest exclusive year- book publishers in the east. One way to explain it is to say that Campus in not an engraver, a printer, or any other type of processor, but a service organization well acquainted with the ins and outs of yearbooksg co-ordinating all the phases of yearbook planning and processing. Not being a processor, we can cover the field more completely. There is no budget too small or too large in which we are not interested, nor any reproductive process that we cannot supply-letterpress printing, engraving, offset printing, or gravure. Using these processes to the best advantage, we now make available five different means to a good book. In letterpress printing, MASTER-PRINTH and HENGRAV-PRINT.', In offset printing, UIVIASTERTONEH and VELVETONE - and in gfavure, HREGENTVURHU All five, from start to finish, are handled alike, receiving the same Perceptiplan servicing, specialized handling of your yearbook from the infant idea to delivery of a fine finished edition. All five are Campus books through and through. These five - differing in price only as they differ in desired effect and budget limita- tions -possess in full those superiorities in appearance, economy, and general effect 5 that have, in three years, made Campus the leading service organization that it is.
