The Halcyon is a collection of impressions of life at Swarthmore. Its purpose is to provide a visual record of the past academic year. It should be of some long term value in evoking what Swarthmore was. In many ways the process of The Halcyon is a microcosm of the process of Swarthmore. It has its good points and its bad points, and there are times when you wish it would all go away. Right now this book is late, very late. Completion depends on a number of people who must submit material in order that we can finish the book. This is very frustrating, as is life at Swarth- more. There is always something that comes up that prevents things from proceeding ac- cording to plan. Learning to cope is one of the skills we all carry away from Swarthmore, along with memories of the Crum, Parrish, and Sharpies. But Swarthmore is more than that . . . Just how much more depends on the individual. When we leave we will take away more than we brought with us as freshmen. How can we help it, surrounded by so many bright and diverse people, all of whom, it seems, love to share what they are doing. And this is Swarthmore ' s most valuable resource, and what we hope to show here, the people.
